in the trailer, we see villager plop DK in a hole, then jump on the platform above him to drop a bowling ball on him for a KO. now, it seems villager is only dropping a bowling ball, so it wouldn't be effective on the ground. and if he COULD use it in the air, why did he jump on the platform? why shouldn't he just jump above him to drop it? considering these things, the only practical situation to use this move would be to use it off a ledge. i believe they have implemented a ledge attack, to finish off or just knock off the enemy from the ledge. this is what i think, anyway. is it a new attack command, or is there another explanation? and if it is a new attack command, what might other characters do? i want to hear what my fellow smash-addicts think on this topic. happy posting! :b:

It covers more than Mewtwo's down smash so that isn't really a valid point. For me it most likely is just that, down smash.

Ledge attacks sound interesting depending on how they are implemented for each character. Are they standard moves like with B commands? Do they work like a Smash attack? How about an aerial or standard? In fact, I wonder how this could possibly hinder edgeguarding or how certain characters approach ledge offense.

I personally was hoping for something like quarter circles or dragon punches to give more kit to all characters. The devs seem to make sense out of this like the second post says. Those motions are universal across fighting games now and I don't see how it would make Smash "less unique".

The bowling ball is a forward smash. Gravity increases its effectiveness... sort of like a sweetspot.

That is actually his shovel.

Oh, I hadn't seen him charge his shovel. Thought that could be his tilt.
There is a kind of graphic associated with smash attacks that I cannot quite describe, but you can certainly see it with the videos we have seen.

Could be a special, tilt, or smash. Who knows? I mean, it's grounded, but that doesn't imply a special input, as there are certain things you cant do in the air. DK can't use his ground slap in the air, and Peach can't pull her turnips while in mid air. We'll see either way.

I think his down special is the sappling, but when he uses it on a ledge, it turns into a bowling ball attack

I don't think it's related to Smash being less unique with it, so much as less accessible. Forward + B is easy, quarter circle B is much harder.

Advanced techniques are fine to have complicated (Since they're often pushing for unexpected interactions from the engine), but none of the basic commands are. That's something all three versions of Smash have had so far, and I really can't see that changing in the fourth.

What is Villager's side special? Is it the gyroid? Because I think the shovel is a tilt.

It's a white spark. It's the same way you can determine all of Miss Fit's Smash attacks. Speaking of which, how many specials have been revealed for her so far? Seems like only three.

I considered the ledge attack, but in combat that sounds horrible. Mostly because if you attack at a ledge you may accidently use the ledge attack and then get whooped. But that's my opinion, I kinda want Villager moveset to be revealed now.

If it is a ledge attack, it will replace the dash attack. The villager's dash is the sapling. Down Smash is the shovel.

Yep the move doesn't make any sense in the moveset concept Sakurai's used thus far. Then again, it's the Villager, he plants trees and cuts them down and we don't know exactly how that's gonna work either.

We also saw Pit running towards the edge and taking off. Could be a new, weirder up B, could be the same kind of potential ledge move as the bowling ball.

I think the wings of Icarus move used in the trailer was just his Up B adjusted to suit Uprising.

The Gyroid Rocket could be a entrance animation. While some of us my expect bus or taxi Sakurai could be surprising us and using it as a entrance animation.

Wait, if the shovel is his down smash... man that's a pretty overpowered down smash. I mean, so far the only other down smashes that weren't low attacks that cover the front and back are ZSS' stun gun and snake's landmine, but to balance how they don't cover both sides, they get a special affect. But the Villager's down smash covers both sides AND buries your opponent like DK's side special.
All the new characters get some new mechanics that the old characters miss out on, like every newcomer in Brawl got a crazy up special that propels them off the screen, meanwhile Link and DK are stuck with the same up special from smash bros 64 that barely covers any range.

One possibility I've been suspecting is that we got a new attack button altogether. Sure, it's a stretch, but who's to say it can't happen besides purists?

Doesn't Link's DSmash hit low AND hit both sides?

As for the "bias" towards the Brawl newcomers, I think that's mostly chalked up to that they didn't really bother to adjust the returning characters for Brawl's engine - in my opinion anyway. I mean, Capt. Falcon and Jiggylpuff didn't get changed, yet their quality was the result of Brawl's mechanics.

Yeah, almost all of the character's down smash is a low attack that covers their front and back.
Snake and Zero Suit's down smash don't cover both sides, but that is made up for because ZSS can paralyze ya with her down smash and Snake's down smash lays a trap.
The Villager's down smash is overpowered because it covers his front, his back, and buries your opponent. Then again, maybe his special only works if your opponent is on the ground.
Anyway, the bowling ball looked like a side tilt to me, however I've also been thinking that it may be some new form of ledge defending attack. If it was a side tilt, it sucks that ya won't be able to angle it like other character's side tilts, but I mean it drops a bowling ball which is pretty awesome...I'm gonna head over to the villager discussion thread because they probly got his whole moveset down by now.

One possibility is that it might be like one of Taokaka's specials in BlazBlue. She can go throw bowling balls that just start to roll.

I'll bet $200 that Bowling Ball is Side-B(Ok, maybe not $200...). The move changes if Villager is on the ground or over a ledge. On ground, it will act like an actual Bowling Ball. In other words, he rolls it like a Bowling Ball.

I don't remember bowling in animal crossing...
then again I can't get past the first down payment on my house...
Maybe I should invest more time in the game and actually see what it's all about.
