Considering the competitive Pokemon scene have Junior Tournaments of their own, is there possibly Smash tourneys for youngsters/young teens?

I have seen youngsters in the spectating scene of Smash tourneys but never really seen them play.

I Probably haven't looked into this properly and there is such a thing as this, but it's been a question stuck in my mind for a while.

Once my question is answered, you can have permission to lock this thread, Moddies.

I guess i can see why, heck, there are 13 and 14 year olds (including myself) who know basically everything competitive smash such as teching, reading, DI, etc. But i'm guessing the only time they can participate is when school is out (in physical tournaments anyway).

Hahah, yep. I'm actually 14 myself, and I know pretty much everything there is to know about it and (not to toot my own horn) I beat lots of people older than me and am often told that I'm very good, especially for my age.

Young teenagers often show up to events that take place during the school year. Events are usually hosted on Saturdays, so they don't get in the way of school.

And even then, I have parents. Parents aren't terribly receptive to us rebellious lazy teenagers using money and time on things like... video games...

Geez I hope I can go to a tourney on saturday.

Hello fellow smashers I'm new to smash boards. I just wanted to spread the word on here. I will be hosting a smash night on the 19th of next month. It will consist of all four smash brothers game each on their own respective consoles. And which ever game gets the most love will be the game we do a tournament on. If anyone on here is interested let me know. It will be held in Soledad California at California Gourmet Pizza from 4-10 there will be a 2 dollar cover charge and 3 dollars to play a best of three on any game (if you win you can keep playing until you lose at a best of three) I hope there are some of you on here near the area and could make it out to support the smash community.

Hi there! I help lead an organization called "High School Smash," and we are currently based in Southern California.

We host high-schooler only tournaments, and here's the event page for our last one: http://smashboards.com/events/high-school-smash-april-25th-melee-smash-4.9841/

We feel that making these tournaments high-schooler only is a great way to introduce younger people into the smash scene, and encourage high school smashers to invite friends from their schools to come too. We had 105 at our first event, and are growing very quickly.

We have been in touch with other regions such as NorCal and Oregon, who seemed to have started their own tournaments as well. In addition to these high-schooler only tournaments, we have a crew battle bracket like The Melee games, but between high schools/school districts. We currently support Melee and Smash 4, and are looking to add PM soon as well.

Check out our Facebook group here: https://facebook.com/groups/highschoolsmash.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I haven't heard of anything like this. I assume it's because Smash is an eSport that requires finger muscle memory and mental strength, two things that aren't traditionally distinguished by age. It's unlike sports like basketball where your physical strength and height play a huge role.

Yeah, I'm in that rut as well; being a teen and not being able to make even an allowance is dumber still. You could probably start by looking around for local tournaments (preferably those without venue fees) and seeing if you'd fit in with their average skill level.
