I was watching a Griever vs Drago match and Griever's Aether seems to go higher than I've ever seen

Either the program that processed the video is dumb...or he's dumb and put 4:3 on a 16:9 screen or vice versa... it's definitely squished though.

Yup, Aether is static, thus always goes the same vertical distance. The vid you linked to was just a little stretched, which makes it look like Aether travels further. I hope your question's been answered with this.
