Is there a reason that Sonic's new color schemes are not reflected on the character select screen?

Sonic now has purple and black palettes in 2.6, which I think round out the selection very well. But why are the palettes still displayed as the old black/gold bracelets with slightly darkened blue fur on the character select screen?

Obviously this isn't exactly a pressing issue or anything, I'm just curious if it was intentional. Seems odd, given that the color swaps for the other characters (Squirtle, Ivy, Charizard, and Sonic's) are displayed there. Anyway, just wondering.
