I was playing For Glory today with a variety of characters. I won quite a few matches...until I switched to Sonic. With Sonic, I was suddenly noticing the lag. Attacks that I wanted to do just weren't happening. They'd either come out a split second too late or not at all. There was lag with my other characters too, but it wasn't messing me up THIS badly. It was messing me up to the point where getting juggled and racking up 110+ percent damage was a common thing. Either my connection suddenly got worse once I switched to Sonic or Sonic is especially bad with lag. But then again, the lag certainly wasn't stopping my opponents from ripping me apart. Hell, I even faced another Sonic and he beat me bad. Granted, he did accidentally suicide once, but the rest of his game was on point. Maybe I just suck with Sonic? But when I fight my friends locally, I play pretty damn well, and my friends are no pushovers. Does anyone else have a tougher time playing Sonic online than other fighters?

If you think 4 Sonic is bad on wifi, then bless your soul for not playing Brawl Sonic on wifi.

I've never been so salty since.

Anyways, yes Sonic is a bit wonky online and i've missed countless grabs because of it.

Except for harder to punish Spin Dashes, Sonic suffers in lag.
Spin Dash stays solid, but he loses most of his other plays.

Luckily my connection is pretty good but every now and then I play a laggy match. Its like a 50\50 I might lose with a bad connection.

The only other character that I think is hit pretty hard is Ness and that only his recovery.

Honestly I believe it gives him an advantage against most characters that do not have projectiles it's actually gross. I hate lag but when I get it literally all I do is spin dash -> jump -> neutral air and mix in some bairs when they're in the air once I have gotten used to the timing of the lag. Once I get enough damage I just up smash or keep doing the same move as it kills at about 170%+ Normally this can be avoided easily but with lag, oh man. . .

. . .

On a side note, I absolutely hate myself for doing that but I also hate lag and I don't exactly like leaving because of it so once I win, they sd or I lose I leave immediately and hope the next game doesn't lag.

I mostly just use Sonic online as I wanted to improve with him, and I have no local competition. At 200 games I had about 160/40, and most of those losses were due to lag (Trying to down tilt but being knocked back by a jab and doing a down air instead for example). I don't find that lag usually affects how I play, infact sometimes I find it helps, not because it helps me perform better, but because my opponent can't handle or judge Sonic's movement in lag. For example, I find his HA is alot safer to use in laggy conditions, because the opponent has to decide whether I'm gonna do a fast or slow HA, and then has to shield accordingly. Whether they shield it or not lag stops them reacting and punishing. Same goes for his spindashes due to the varying speed if you charge it or not.

I've managed to juggle the s**t out of people from 0% to death due to this. I'll admit, I felt a bit dirty afterwards, but a win is a win and I'll use whatever works to win. But I have a good connection, so it's rare I find laggy games, but whenever it occurs that's how I feel anyway... Unless we're talking about INSANE lag where the game will run one frame, load for 10 seconds, rinse and repeat. I don't think ANY character benefits in those conditions.

Sonic is good with lag compared to most characters. SD/SC are amazing tools in lag as they cannot do reaction shielding and it is incredibly difficult to punish Sonic with the lag.
