Is Smashboards not releasing a tier list until all characters are released?

To avoid the Bayonetta and Corrin situation where a tier list was released a few days before the next dlc characters?

The reason why there's no tier lists from Smashboards is because there is no Back Room for Ultimate, a special room where well respected TO's, and top players are invited to discuss and create tier lists and such. Most top players don't use the boards that often anymore due to the fact that other alternatives of communication such as Discord is used more often for faster communication rather than waiting a while for a response. Not to forget that most top players already have years of experience competing to understand the fundamentals and what they need to practice and learn in the game, which sort of makes the boards useless for them to use. Because of that, you'll almost never see a top player online posting tips or asking for advice, which defeats the purpose of the Back Room if there's barely any top players utilizing the boards. The social interaction that's left behind is usually covered by Facebook groups as a better way to connect top players with each other, and any other players with each other.

Another thing too is that most top players would want valuable character info, stats, and tricks from people who play in the same level as them, and will often disregard any information posted by newer players as they often tend to get their information wrong, and post things that top level players already know.

* Also to put that constant updates and the addition of DLC characters will always cause the tier lists to change, which makes it difficult to produce an official tier list.

Would it be possible to assemble all top players to coordinate and create an official tier list?
I’m pretty sure it’s already been done, but that was back in patch v7.0.0. This new patch would invalidate that tier list because several characters like Wii Fit Trainer and Kirby have been buffed, and it’s up to these players to see if these characters have risen up on the tier list or not. Not to forget the addition of Min Min and determining her placement in the tier list. For reference, this is one example back in February.

Hmmm interesting. I feel that there is no official tier list due to dlc and the metagame constantly shifting. However, alot of new players in fighting games check tier lists when they start playing competitively and since there is no tier list people get redirected to an incorrect source such as eventhubs. We need multiple iterations of ultimate tier lists like we did for the previous games - https://www.ssbwiki.com/Tier_list#Super_Smash_Bros._Ultimate_tier_list

Smashboards previously had a Smash 4 Backroom (4BR) comprised of tournament level players and knowledgeable individuals which produced tier lists. We do not have a Smash Ultimate Backroom. If we did, we'd still be compiling and publishing tier lists, regardless of character release schedules or balance patches. Not sure where that ssbwiki page got that idea but it's not the case.

what made you not have a backroom, and did you have one for 64, Melee and Brawl?

There was a back room for those 3 games, though the 64 Back Room was only established after Brawl came out.

I wasn't an administrator at the time, but my understanding is that a Smash Ultimate Back Room was not established mostly due to a lack of interest from the individuals who would be qualified to be in it. Not so much a point in making tier lists without folks who know what they're doing.
