Is Sakurai making a mistake by not releasing characters already

With Halo 3 about to come out and all the hype sorrounding it, is Sakurai making a mistake by not going ahead and listing all the characters so that Brawl could get a lot of hype. Imagine if Sakurai announced Sonic, Megaman, and other new nintendo characters like Captain Olimer right now?

Sites like IGN, Gamespy, etc. would start to hype the game more and people may want to preorder to compete with Halo3 and Xbox.

Halo 3 comes out in less than a week. Sakurai is doing fine with his updates. People are already hyped about Brawl, and there's no sense in trying to compete with Halo 3's release with updates. I think you're just eager to see new characters.

Yep. Smash Bros is shooting itself in the foot. The release is only a couple months off and there is no advertising whatsoever. If he revealed a bunch of characters so Nintendo marketing could use the new characters to advertise, Brawl would sell much better.

Well it is just my opinion, if Sonic is in the game... Imagine the hype if Sakurai went ahead and announced it with a trailor... may push people thinking about Halo into getting a Wii instead...

Just my opinion though... don't know a lot about this. People who like Halo sometimes are not the group that would like brawl no matter who is in it.

Be patient - the release is still a few months away. Why announce a big surprise about the game now rather than mere weeks before its release - save all that massive hype for when it will do the most good, have the least time to dissipate or settle down? Nothing Sakurai & co do will put a dent in Halo's popularity, it simply has too many devoted fans and mindless fanboys, so theres no point in trying. Let Halo have its day, then hype Smash when its closer to release and Halo has been around for a while.

Nintendo isn't really a competative organization, they support a more of a profit gaining, famility oriented enviornment.

If you've known about Nintendo for the past decade, you should know that they aren't major on press releases or giving out information.

How is Nintendo making a mistake? Nintendo goes by their own demographic for advertising purposes. Just because Bungie decided to drp the load doesn't mean that a game can't be anticipated as much. Besides, who wouldn't get Halo 3 or Brawl because of each games advertising? I can guarantee you Halo 3 will still sell as much even if they didn't have any form of advertising outside of anouncements from Bungie.

Well maybe the fact that Nintendo is not being competitive is the problem... Halo comes out and shows everything they are about and right now they have 2 million pre-orders or something.

Brawl is simply not advertising enough. IMO that is only reason PS2 and Xbox overtook Gamecube.

Do u really beleive that??? I cant remeber but one game on the cube, Melee, but i remember a lot of games for the ps2 and xbox, and here in Mexico we rarely got advertising from nintendo, even less for ps2 or xbox!!! is not the advertising, if the games are good the word spreads.

Nintendo just wasnt up to their competitors level, now they have an advantage, the wiimote, that new technology which everyone seems to like (i hate it tough) and they are kicking a$$, but again, when they are in the top, the f*ck up, now theyre messing with online, they have a good online service but they dont get the most of it when everyone else does (not just sayin that for brawl) same goes for the voice chat and stuff. Nintendo rules the handheld market and they put some great additions in it, but for some reason they dont in the console... i dont know whats the deal with that

But well, theres still some time left until brawl sees the light, so dont u worry, they WILL advertise it

Nintendo is currently doing fine as it is, there's alot more said when less is said than more. Just look at Smash Bros related message boards, they're always talking about what is unknown and unsaid over what really is given. There are more threads for potential characters and stages than there are for those confirmed, and even with the confirmed list, the talk is always about what those characters will do or how the stages will work, again focusing on what is unknown.

I understand that not knowing can be a bit annoying, but how can you really argue with daily updates? No other game site does that, and I don't see very many having the content to be able to do so either. It's the perfect way to count down the game, giving us each a little taste of the game so that we can hype each element as it comes our way. Really, Brawl has enough hype already going for it, giving away all the hidden material would simply ruin the surprise for those who are anticipating the game.

No Internet?!?
Complain. Complain. Complain.

Wii has loads of advertisements over here.

Melee sold millions, more people have Wii's than Gamecube. Halo comes out next week, Brawl comes out in December. What is there to compete about?

People can buy more than 1 game you know.

The fact that he does daily upsets is a good thing... I just think they should release a new trailor soon with some more hyped up characters to get attention like hey brawl is still here. The last trailor was from August or something on IGN.

He's not telling us who's secret and who's a starter. It's safe to assume that all the starting Melee veterans will be starters in Brawl. Some of the newcomers may be considered secret though (not just Solid Snake).

ZOMG Nintendo's consoles suck because they sold less than the competition. ZOMG their games have sold millions meaning more profits regardless of console sales.

Nintendo = profit wise

Everyone else = way to competitive. This is why the other two keep losing money rather than gaining because they want to beat out everyone else

With the games several months apart anyway... I doubt it matters anyway. Halo's already hyped as long as Smash Bros. It really wouldn't matter if he updated more, because we'd still want the game just the same.

"Daily upsets," I like that. From many reactions I've seen over the updates, I think that's a perfect term. ;)

I think it should hype itself up with a commercial, like they did for SSB64. Although I would think that this commercial should be more serious then people wearing mascot costumes and fursuits.

Who cares?

Let the Halo kids play Halo 3. As well, M$ is all about competitive markets. They are all about big bad *** games for people to buy. It's a fact. Some are good games but M$ does has a history of being competative market players.

As well, Halo 3 is being launched this month. SSBB is being launched in December. There is already, if not right now, enough hype to make this a most-wanted game when it debuts.

So....to summarize....don't worry about it and enjoy the suspense.
