Is random matchmaking region restricted?

Anyone know if a person who owns an NTSC-U copy of Smash can connect via random matchmaking with someone who owns, say, a PAL copy?

I've had Japanese players show up on mine before so I would assume not.

I assume you're asking this because of your location (Australia)? Well, in any case, the game isn't region-locked. I get many Japanese players all the time and you can play friends across the world, which I have done.

I too get matched up with Japanese players. Hard to tell where my opponent lives outside of just seeing different languages on the screen. But I've seen in another thread that European players also get thrown into worldwide matches. Which I honestly think is cool. Different play styles and what not

playing from NZ/Aus to europe on 300 ping is the antithesis of fun
hard to have a playstyle when you're teleporting around

I hope they patch in some kind of regional/ping matchmaking (not likely)

yep, im using a 100mbps connection in WA and the game is unplayable, just way to much delay. Actually regret buying my wii now.
