Is it worth going to my scene in my situation?

Over here in Washington, the Smash 4 sessions happen on Tuesday and Thursday, at around 6-6:30 PM and lasting until around 11 PM. Being 14, I have school. Should I even try to go to these sessions? If I can't, I'm kind of stuck with online until summer and other breaks, since no one plays Smash in my neighborhood.

It's really up to how much you want to get better.
Look at Wizzrobe, he plays Melee and Smash 4 on the side and he's only a couple years older than yourself...
Even if you can't go to everything that's offered, I'm sure you can find others that will help or you can make some sort of time to get out and play.

Is that just Singles or whatever lasting all that time? Or is that the total time of, say, both Singles and Doubles?

If it's just one event, you could perhaps look into just attending for friendlies, so you can leave when you need to (or should, depending on how responsible you are/how late your ride is willing to wait). That way you can still get some good in-person practice without being under the time constraint or obligation to play out the tournament as far as you progress.

If it's multiple brackets, maybe look into entering the earlier-ending one.

Try to get your parents on board. There have been players younger than you getting into the tournament scene. Just show them what these players did at your age and maybe show where they are now. If you can get a parent to bring you there and pick you up that'll work just fine. It'll be better if they stayed with you the first time so they could see for themselves you'll be okay by yourself. It's 2015 so it shouldn't be hard for you to convince them. It's not like you're in Detroit or something right?

Winrich around age 12-14 playing vs a high end UMVC3 player (Noel Brown).

Native Impact age 13-15 playing against a top end SF4 player (Poongko).

Wizzrobe at age 15 making it to PM grand finals at Zenith 2013

Good luck OP.

It's not a tournament. It's just playing for a couple hours. My scene just piggybacks on the Street Fighter tournaments.

Oh, Jenna. Don't badmouth the WA scene like that, especially when you haven't even been. Come out to tourneys. It's worth it, if you can get a ride.

Since you're talking about "piggybacking on SF4 tourneys," I'm guessing you're around Seattle... in which case, we don't piggyback on SF tournaments. NW battlegrounds is the monthly you're talking about (Saturdays), and it's about equal traditional fighters & Smash (Melee/PM/4). There's actually a monthly tomorrow (Saturday) up in Lynwood and it's just smash 4 this month. Doubles starts at 1, singles starts at 4. BC is coming down and it should be a good time. Some of the Melee/PM people won't be there, because it conflicts with Oregon's monthly that has.

Epeen Gaming has a smash 4 tournament every other Thursday that is runs singles bracket from 6-9ish and PM runs until 11. A lot of Smash 4 people leave after the smash 4 bracket, but some stay for doubles and friendlies. I don't know what you're talking about on Tuesday. Mondays there's friendlies/a bracket from 3-ish to 11 with people coming in and out. The smash 4 scene in Seattle is a thing. Eastern WA has its own scene too.

A lot of this could've been said in private, but whatever. The Seattle smash 4 scene is its own thing. I don't like seeing it portrayed as "piggybacking" on a traditional fighter.

Edit: Hi staff, this probably doesn't need to be in this thread. Request a move to the pac west regional forum.

I don't live anywhere near Seattle and EPG is waaaay to far. I'm referring to the Lacey Smash scene. There's only like, two setups according to the people on Facebook.

I remember seeing Olympia having some tourneys a while ago. Smash in the woods. Since there is an established melee/pm scene there, I wouldn't be surprised to find some smash 4 players, or at least some people interested in it.

Lacey to renton is an hour. Seattle is an extra half hour. I know you're young, but that's not an absurd drive. For reference: Konga, from Oak Harbor, makes a 2 hour drive when he comes to tournaments.

You don't have to come all the time, but it's not absurd to come every once and a while. Then again, it's totally up to you. Only you get to decide if it's "worth it."

The scene in Lacey is 18 minutes away from me. With traffic, I'm pretty sure Renton is going to be a lot longer to get to. Plus, with Renton being one hour away on Thursdays, it's too far and too late for me to go on a school night.

It really depends how competitive you consider yourself and how much you want to get better like Admins already stated. Though personally, I'd say go if you have the opportunity.

The Smash community is generally very friendly and healthy compared to others. Being able to meet new people by simply playing games is a blessing (especially for someone like me who has social anxiety) and can be a lot of fun.

I knew there were Smashers in Oak Harbor!
Hey Locke 06 Locke 06 , I'm on deployment right now, but if there is anyway I can get in contact with any of the guys that you might know from Oak Harbor? I've seen some small tournies popping up near by but they always seem to be days where I can't leave or are a little too far out....
I would really love to start playing with you guys when I get back!
