for making money: The last time I ever saw smash 64 being played for an actual amount of cash was I think a year ago (?) at one of Sensei's tourneys by me. Smash 64 is more of cult if anything followed by gamers.
Why if we can't win money: multiple reasons
1. Its fun
2. Its more balanced than melee and brawl combined

School =/= College
There are always good smashers at colleges or universities. I thought you meant like a high school, where everyone is usually crap. I started a smash club at my university and found a good 64 player (but, just one). As for Melee & Brawl, there are many good Brawl players here, and just an hour ago I had a guy over who was the #1 Melee player in Toronto for a while until he stopped playing.
And EVERYONE who's had an n64 plays 64, there's just very few good players

There really isn't a way to make a decent income playing ssb64. If there's a ssb64 tournament with a nice cash pot, you can expect Isai to be there to win it.
