Smash 3DS Is download play still a thing?

I'm not sure if they stopped doing this post-3ds era but there isn't download play is there?

I know a screen came up at e3 showing that each person needs a system and a game (sold seperately) but that was during smash run. Can I do local vs. matches over download play by any chance?

Download play is not a thing for Smash Bros. Some other games like Kirby Triple Deluxe still have it.

I kinda miss download play it was a nice way to play with others who did not own the system. I still recall playing Mario kart ds with a bunch of my old friends.

Mario Kart 7 has it!! You have to play as Shy Guy, and you only get a drumbeat instead of the track's actual music...

I'll bet you can host a game and they can connect with the demo
