Is anyone REALLY ever into Smash for "just the money"?

Heard some people say this about a number of players, Mango, for example.

"Oh, Mango only plays top tiers, he is clearly only in it for the money!"

............

Is there anyone on this planet that is into competitive gaming just for the money?

If you were into competitive Smash "for the money", wouldn't you pick a game with a bigger player base and competitive scene like League of Legends? or... wait, wouldn't you pick another profession altogether? Competitive gamer isn't really the best profession for making money.

This seems like a strange thing to say...

In order to become successful, it helps to be truly passionate about the game (power of intrinsic motivation, yada yada).

But once you've achieved success, you can continue to "coast" even if your passion for the game has died (see: M2K).

Basically, you need passion initially, but if it fades once you're already good, you can continue to play for money (and win).

Mango plays because he loves the game.

M2K still has passion for Melee. Just Brawl he's over but still makes that phat cash.
