Ireland is voting tomorrow to allow gay couples to get married. Dunno how it's going to go honestly. As a gay guy it's pretty scary to think your rights as a person are in the hands of others. But it's also amazing to think how we could start something huge on our tiny island.

Give us your energy smashboards and raise that spirit bomb for all the LGBT people of Ireland and the world over!

It is a step in the right direction at least. If it does not pass, at least the subject has been brought up and could be changed in the future.

Your retina to your occipital lobe as you read.
I give you my energy, even if it happens to not pass right now, i'm pretty sure it will pass eventually, the LGBT community is getting more and more accepted by each passing year.

Heck! even my grandparents, who would've possibly drowned my father alive if he was gay, the biggest homophobes around, are now starting to accept that being gay/bi ain't wrong.

I'm not part of the LGBT community, and living in the woods means I don't know much about them nor do I follow the news. But I support none the less.

Just back from the polling station, myself. The news here has stories of people coming back to Ireland just to vote on this - it's pretty amazing that people are willing to fly thousands of miles for this one thing. Opinion polls are about 70:30 in favour of it, so hopefully it passes - we'll have results in by tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, we also have a separate poll today on reducing the minimum age at which you can run for President. Everyone has pretty much forgotten about that one, though :p

I voted at around midday today.

There wasn't a huge crowd but there were a few people milling in and out at a steady pace. There was a by-election in my area too.

Tomorrow is certainly going to be interesting. No matter what happens there's going to be complaining.

Results came a while ago. Gay marriage is now legal in Ireland :]

Meanwhile in Roscommon

This part of the country sucks. Result from my constituency (Longford-Westmeath) is just in, though, and it's a Yes vote, so not too bad, I guess.

Well to be fair to the Roscommon/South Leitrim contituency there was something like a 48% yes vote. So I don't think we should just forget those people who voted yes.

I'm really delighted with this result.

I find the fact that some people actually vote no to deny the right of marriage for loving couples to be quite cruel though.
Indeed, really not something that should be up for vote.

And sadly, no matter how much same-sex marriage is legalized, there are many, many, many more important LGBT issues to fight for. Like in my state, although same-sex marriage got legalized (pretty miraculous, considering it's Oklahoma lol), I can still be fired just for being LGBT. And I most certainly do not feel safe, either.

Marriage is great. However, I feel that it's pretty stupid that it was ever an argument (especially in governments that are supposed to have a separation of church and state, like the US), and I hope that society doesn't move on and leave the real LGBT issues in the dust.
