Hey, it's Sariku. Today, after chuch I am supposed to be getting a Blue iPod Nano (4 Gigs). I was wondering, who else has an iPod, what do you think of it, is it worth $200 (US)? If I get it, I'll tell you what I think of it.

I own an iPod, and I love it. It's easy to use, easy to put music onto, and the headphones that come with it are top quality, $50.00 earbuds, which I've ended up buying 3 spares of, since I blow them up really quick <_<...

It's definetly worth the money, when you consider the headphones come with it, you're basically paying $37.50 for each Gig of music, which really isn't bad, when you think about it.

As long as you use iTunes for your music, It's really easy. Other MP3 players that I've had were a pain to drag music onto, but with iTunes, just select 400 songs out of your library, (Probably more like 600-800 in your case, I have a 2 gig =P), and boom. They're on your iPod. Very easy. Getting actual music from iTunes might not be a good idea, unless you want to spend a fortune on music, but you can still get music from your computer onto iTunes without any trouble.

I originally had a 1 GB iPod Nano. I wasn't satisfied with it, but that was mainly because I couldn't fit half of my songs on that thing!

Now I have a 30 GB iPod Video which I bought earlier this summer, I love it! I can't see what everybody has against iPods. The price, though... I'll admit, it was a bit much. -_-

In my mind, the reason why people don't like iPods is becuase of the recent rise in popularity that they've had. It's getting to the point now where it's "Everybody else has an iPod, do you?" Barbie toys are starting to be able to plug into iPods, and everything in this world is becoming compatible with the iPod. I'm even starting to see other random companies adding small 'i's in front of everything as a marketing campaign. It's just like all the other fads in this world. People now are getting iPods not because they want to listen to music, but because everyone else is doing it. The actual iPods are great, but the marketing for them is getting ridiculous.

I didn't ask for my iPod, and it's ridiculously easy to use, so I don't complain . Although I do admit I wouldn't have gotten one for myself, I definetly enjoy it.

iPods and Zunes suck. Get a Samsung or a Creative. They're much better and much less expensive but they can still use iTunes. iPods are very buggy, they only last like a year, and they're very fragile. A 4GB Creative Zen costs $120, a 4GB Samsung costs $150 (my dad has it, it's incredible),but a 4GB iPod Nano costs $200. You want to spend $80 for what? No video, flashy interface, and the satisfaction of being bought into Apples corporate bullcrap because you think you're cool for buying something stupid? (I would talk crap about Zune but they don't make 4GB Zunes, even more reason not to get one?)

And no, I don't hate iPods because they're popular, I hate them because they're overpriced garbage that people just buy because it has pretty colors and they think it makes them trendy because the people using them in the commercials look hip and trendy (like all Apple technology)

I bought my 2 GB iPod Nano (2nd Generation one) for $165 (add tax and the final price is $185). It works very good, I've only had to reset it a few times. I do love the 24 battery life feature.

I would strongly recommend getting an iPod.

I've had my ipod nano for over a year and a half and I have dropped it dozens of times and its still works perfectly fine.

I got my ipod nano signed by Paul Van Dyk yesterday! woo!......Now I can't use it in fear of wiping it off lmao. :urg:

I loved my iPods.

Notice how I say "loved?" I've gone through 4. (Sold one, one was stolen, and the other two broke.)

But yeah, I'd highly reccomend any iPod.

Cheaper MP3 players tend to have terrible GUI's, and a huge lag time between songs, which makes spamming through shuffle really annoying. iPods are extremely easy to use, the click-wheel is disgustingly convenient, and whats bad about having everything iPod compatible?

My car is iPod compatible. Even though my iPod broke months ago, I'm still having a hard time switching back to CD's.

My biggest reccomendation would be to buy your iPod Nano through Best Buy, and buying a PRP (product replacement plan) with it. It costs about 20 bucks, and basically what it is, is a two year warranty that covers normal wear and tear, dust, heat, humidity, surges, etc. So if for any reason it stops working, you can just waltz in and get a new one.

As an ex-Best Buy employee, I highly reccomend it.

The iPod does come with a one-year manufacturer's warranty, and their customer service is great, but nothing beats the PRP. Even after two years, if your iPod hasn't broken, you can just claim that it "doesn't work like it used to", and they'll give you a brand new one-- even if it's a newer model.

As a warning though, iPods break extremely easily. My second iPod blew up in my car, probably because it got too hot, and my other one's click wheel stopped working for no reason. Also, the rechargable battery DOES die after a few years, and costs somewhere around 60 bucks to replace.

Anyway, this is getting a bit on the "TLDR" side, so if you have any questions, PM me. I'm an expert. :p

My dog chewed my Nano into pieces. The screen was shattered and the body torn in half.

I now have a RAZR that plays iTunes. It can only hold 150 or so songs, but it works for me.

gregunit, how many apple products have you owned? i hope at least a few; i'm sure we can both agree that making those types of statements based on no or 1 experience is jumping the gun a little.

i've owned 2 zens, a sansa, and 2 ipods in my time. i've also purchased several daps for friends and family over the years, and the ipod is my favorite. yes, it is more expensive than its competitors. you should make sure you at least take a look at the several other daps on the market before you buy an ipod. make an informed decision before you buy. you can pm me if you wanna know why i like the ipod, because i dont want this post to get too long heh.

also, apple technology is not solely based around looks and trend, although they do pay attention to design. and why shouldnt they? this **** has become such a big part of our lives that its about time someone paid attention to how it looked. i have owned several apple products (not just ipods) and some have been ****, and some i absolutely fell in love with. apple isnt a perfect company that can do no wrong with a device. theyre also not a bad company that puts lipstick on pigs.

I won a shuffle at a raffle. What sucks is, i've had it for months and can't use it until we update the whole operating system and THEN update stupid itunes. I hate that. The ipid only works if you buy the next itunes update. By the time we do, they'll come out with a new one and make us buy that. :(

i have a video ipod which is sweet. No i don't have videos on it anymore (they drain the battery way too fast) so i just keep tons of music on it. I love it and I've had mine for a year and a half now. I'd highly recommend one if you can afford it.

Ha, I saw this threads name, and I KNEW it would be from Uchiha.

Anyways, can I ask some of ya'll?

I got my iPod 3 days ago, and It's awesome. Now, I know they "Die" eventually, as a cheap marketting ploy, but I would like to know, how long till they die? A few years? A year?

mine took two years, and it's not a cheap marketing ploy. All batteries die eventually, ie: car batteries. It's a matter of physics and chemistry, not business. I can't remember the exact science of it, but it can't be helped.

2 years? That's okay...I guess.

But it is said to be a ploy;

*From wikipedia*

"iPods have been criticized for their short life-span, fragile hard drives, and planned obsolescence"

Note planned obsolescence.

It does die, and maybe it isn't that bettery, but as shown there, they do die out of marketting ploy at some point.

Actually it was 3 years. My bad. I got it in 2004 and it died this year.

*Also from Wikipedia*

"Obsolescence is the state of being which occurs when a person, object, or service is no longer wanted even though it may still be in good working order."

iPod photo was released shortly after I bought my black and white one, rendering my iPod obsolete just a few months after I bought it. Did I care? Narpz. It still worked exactly the way I wanted it to for the next 2.5 years.

Also, it seems that you're misinterpreting the word "obsolete" as a synonym for "malfunctioning".

"Also, it seems that you're misinterpreting the word "obsolete" as a synonym for "malfunctioning"."

Obsolete means "No longer wanted/needed" (basicly) in the normal sense, but for the term "Planned obselence" it means:

*Wikipedia again*
"Planned obsolescence (also built-in obsolescence (UK)) is the decision on the part of a manufacturer to produce a consumer product that will become obsolete and/or non-functional in a defined time frame"

W/e. My point is that my iPod lasted 3 years and only stopped working because the battery died, just as all long term rechargeable batteries do. Whatever the context the word "obsolete" is used in, one of them is something Apple can't help and the other isn't true to my experience and others I know, at least.

i agree
especially if you dont have an apple
No joke. If you use Microsoft xp/vista Zune is the way to go. Of course if your a Microsoft hater I can see why your prodigious *** wouldn't get one.

Once you get into the 30-80 gig range they (all mp3 players) switch over to hard drives. So, if you drop one (no matter which brand) it will more than likely be destroyed.

Currently I have a 2 Gig Nano as a place holder iPod because my other one got a virus lol. But I am probably gonna get an 80 Gig Video for the heck of it. A lot of songs and movies FTW

My brother got the 80 gig video and I think he almost filled it up (some of it was the 1st season of Sheep in the Big City). I really don't need that much space so my Motorola Q with a gig of memory should be fine for now, and even if that's not enough I can buy another SD memory card for 35 bucks that holds 2 gigs.

Have a 30 gig ipod video. I don't use it for music, but use it to watch porn, so it's actually really useful to me. It has really poor battery life when watching videos, though, so don't expect to go out wiht a fully charged video ipod and watch that much on it before needing to recharge it.

Personally, for music, I don't think it's worth the price, especially when you compare to an mp3 player, and the videos aren't really much of an extra due to short battery life, unless you happen to use it like I do. I suppose you have enough battery to watch one movie, but that's about it.

Oh, one disadvantage is that it requires use of iTunes, which I dislike.

Video is much better. I too have Sheep in the Big City on mine. Just can't get enough of it. Plus, with many programs (I use Videora iPod Converter) I can add my favorite Smash Brothers videos on it!

I got an old shuffle, still works, so its good, i blew up like 3 or 4 earphones, but my bro gave me all spares for free, mine costed like $70 bout 2 years ago, my bro has a newish one, the 80 gB video thing, and it seems to work perfectly, but i myself wouldnt get a 80 GB, no need, as for a nano 4GB i think its perfectly reasonable.

I als not use iTunes, i hate it for some reason i cant explain, i rather use a Winamp plug-in, and just ?buy? my music off uTorrent for free.

I have a black 30GB iPod video, and to be honest, I barely use it's full capabilities. It was an impulse buy, I could technically live without it.
