My Touch isn't being recognized as a music device and is only being seen as a photo storage device.

I'm not updating to a newer version solely because Karmic Koala is the only version that supports my usb wifi connector thing-a-ma-jigg. I've tried using the following "iTunes Alternatives": Amarok, Banshee Media Player & Rythmbox Music Player and none of them help.

Any advice?

Ubuntu 10.0whatever supports an iPod touch. You should check whether or not it supports your wifi connector, and if it does support it, update.

Apple added a bunch of stuff with their Touch firmware in order to force people to use iTunes, but Ubuntu 10 Lucid Linux installs the stuff that you need to bypass all that crap.

If you can't update, you're stuck using iTunes. Do you have a windows partition, or do you only have Linux?

Sadly, none of the 10.x's support my dell wifi connector.

I doubt this matters but my touch is jailbroken. I'm only running Linux. If only iTunes even worked on Ubuntu -_-

Are you absolutely sure? What type of connector is it? Be very specific in the name of the connector, etc.

Haha, my iPod is jailbroken too. Unfortunately, it never worked with Linux until I updated to 10.

Install the package "libimobiledevice". This is the package that contains the protocals the iPod uses. None of them will work without it.
Code:
sudo apt-get install libimobiledevice
Assuming you have the latest Rhythembox installed, it should recognize it's songs. You can also drag songs on it to sync them. If it doesn't do anything, tell me. You might have some fun steps to do.

Also, if you're jailbroken, you should install SSH from cydia.

1. Install OpenSSH Server from cydia.
2. Open a terminal in Ubuntu. Enter these commands.

Code:
ssh root@<ipods IP Address here>
passwd
It will ask for a password. It is "alpine".
Then, the next command changes it to whatever you want. If it is default, a hacker can do the same thing and will have root access to you iPod. Not good.

I would still highly recommend upgrading to 10.04 though.

If you haven't resolved this already just upgrade to Lucid, it's the easiest way. You can sync through rhythmbox easily.
