Interesting Idea, Let Me Know if this is Old.

Okay, so you know how from the ledge you can drop off, double jump and waveland off the stage to grab the edge again? I was messing around with that and seeing what I could do with it--just for fun. I realized it wouldn't really be practical, but I was just goofing off.

Now, after figuring out really cool things you could do between stocks, I also figured out one potentially useful technique. After Marth wavedashes it takes him a bit of time to recover before he can do anything (I think ArcNatural said it was something like 10 frames). So if you wanted to wavedash back and do an aerial, it would take 10 frames before you could jump. However, with this technique you could slide off the stage (or platform, for that matter), immediately double jump and perform an aerial, which would in turn cancel the 10 frame lag time after wavedashing.

Basically if near the edge of a platform or stage you could space yourself appropriately and perform an aerial much quicker, opening up more options if you're in a tight squeeze.

...Yeah, that's about it. Nothing groundbreaking, but something I found interesting and wasn't sure how useful it was.

Let me know if this is old news.

EDIT: Wow...now I'm trying things out and there's no longer the 10 frame lag after wavedashing. I think the 10 frames is just the wavedash. This might not be useful at all. Sorry if I'm really misinformed--I'm lacking on sleep (johns).

It'd be faster to just shffl rather than wavedash from a platform. >.>

Uh, dunno, I'm not a fan of being on platforms as Marth.

However I do know that airdodging has ten frames landing lag (wavedashing is also a form of airdodging and so you have that lag too) and that you can cancel it by falling.

^ Thanks, that helps at least so I know that this actually does work.

UPDATE!!!!!:

By use of this technique I've found out around an extra 15/16 things that can be done from the ledge with Marth as well as a few other things. It's really weird because you can seriously mess with momentum in really awkward ways. I'm not sure how to explain it yet, but I'm going to work on this with Arcnatural and see which of these are already known and which weren't. Everything I recorded I have never seen done in a match by anyone--so either these are all terrible ideas or are new things you can do with Marth. If I've actually uncovered some new information I'm going to look into putting a video together to compile everything I discovered so you guys can see it all. And from there I'll see what you guys can put your heads together to do with what I've collected. Some of it looks useless but pretty darn interesting.

To give you a preview, probably the most interesting thing I found out is by messing with momentum I can get my character to airdodge in the complete wrong direction that I press. It's pretty intriguing.

I have a feeling I know exactly what your talking about. I basically did it with Falcon when we were playing on Tuesday (remember?, ledgehop wavedash back off the edge double jump knee?). Another example could be wavedashing off a platform and immediately air dodging back onto the platform.

It has some interesting applications on platforms whether you dash or wavedash off them. I'd say it's known, but it hasn't really been explored other than the simple waveland off -> aerial on edges/platforms.

Wavedashing off the platform then airdodging back on was in Perfect Control... I don't remember if it was the first or second. It was the clip with Popo on Green Greens. I rememer SuperDoodleMan saying it was kinda inconsistent though.

^Airdodging back on was in Perfect Control? It's not that hard. I can do it. Not consistently but I was just experimenting with it today.

And Arc, I figured it was known, but I started exploring it a bit and there's a few techniques I've come up with and some interesting things too.

But the airdodging is all screwed up after you wavedash off a platform/stage. I'll show you on Tuesday. I'll bring my copy of Melee because I'm not sure if it's the same in each version and I don't know what version you have.

It is in the second video. I think he does it with fox on FD as well.

I'm dong a lot of developing on this, but it lead me to find out a lot of options Marth has using this to attack offstage (either at people recovering or people on the stage but Marth would be attacking offstage nonetheless).

None of it is incredibly breathtaking or anything, but just interesting. It's not something that would add a whole lot to Marth's gameplay like the d-tilt edgeguard or anything, but it would be something that if thrown in every now and then would leave your opponent confused.

*shrug* I'll show Arc on Tuesday and we'll see what he thinks of it.
