Instant runoff voting, simply put, is a "ranking" of candidates in single winner elections. Say there's 5 candidates, then you would rank them from the one you like the most to least.
Although there isn't as decidedly clear a winner as in our current system, IMO would balance out the parties a lot more and prevent your vote being thrown away if you voted for a third party.
Americans would have a hard time accepting change like this, I think, but we could start with IRV for smaller elections, like mayors in some cities, and move from there. It is used in a few cities already but I think it should spread out. What do you think about IRV? Is it a good idea or not? Please feel welcome to post your opinion.
