Improving The Meta Game and Exposure of Low Tiers in Tournament

Before I start, i am a nobody and and have not made a impact on the community and this idea is me trying to help out and improve the fgc.

"Melee is, to me, the perfect game [ENGINE] but has quite a few balancing issues." - Mew2king. I wholeheartedly agree and i believe that separating tiers would fix some not all balance issues melee has. Instead of the current four tiers, it would be three; high, middle, low. The first tier would be the current eight 'viable' characters (Fox-Icees). middle would then be 9-18 (Doc-Yoshi). Lastly, low tier would be 19-26 (Zelda-Kirby). I believe for now, three tiers would allow the most diversity without suffering Tournament Organizational issues. I understand that doc is better than Yoshi but this greatly reduces balance problems. Concerning low tiers in current i tournaments. I understand people fight for their characters and some players manage to do well even though their characters i believe this will give every character a chance to develop a meta game.

Tournaments
Due to the fact that people find higher tier character matches more interesting, the low tier tournaments will be streamed first. then middle an high tiers in order. Concerning money, I am under the impression that there will be more entrants in the high tier tournaments so money will not necessarily be an issue. Furthermore, a player can enter as many of the events as are being hosted, this way a versatile player can win all pots if he/she does well.

Conclusion
I know this solution isn't perfect and i don't have great expectations for this to catch on immediately. But i believe this is the best solution at the moment.

Thank you if you made it this far! :)

What exactly is your idea? You went straight from saying there are three tiers to suggesting how to stream matches. No explanation of format.

What I'm getting out of this is the suggestion of separate tournaments based on the tier list. That won't solve the problem. Not everyone of equal amount plays each character.

My apologies. Along with characters being divided into three tiers, I belive three could be three sperarte brackets and prize pools. Hope this clarifys things a bit.

Exactly c_mill24. Thus lower tier brackets would take less time, giving players who play those characters a chance/exposure, at the same time tournaments would get to the main event or higher tier bracket.

Your idea is very destructive to meta game development, regardless of what tier the characters are in. Your idea gives them essentially no chance to rise through the tiers, pretty much making the idea of meta game development pointless.

Tier lists change all the time for any game. This would be no exception, if a character deserves to move up then let him! But after people playing the game for 13 years I think we all know that bowser will never win a tournament unless he's given an opportunity like this. Furthermore, I'm fairly new to smash compared to others so I know I'm not perfect and this would take the acceptance of the smash community. Much like what smogon did for competitive Pokemon.

Smash doesn't work like Pokemon, nor should it. Yes, while not every character has the chance to win a tournament, this however isn't going to help. Your idea brings meta game development to a halt, as characters would only be allowed to face off against other characters in the tier.

Low tier tournaments are already a thing, just not very common. Most people probably wouldn't want to run or pay for three separate tournaments in the same game, especially if there are multiple games at the event. Metagame development probably isn't going to happen to a significant extent at this point in Melee's life anyway.

Can sopo be considered a high tier no matter what. Fundamentally popo has more options than most mid tiers without nana, so it would be unfair to other mid and low tier used to fight a high tier character.
