iMovie Just Deleted 5 Days of My Work

Firstly:

I had to do an iMovie project on some Blues Musician for my Music class over my little break, and I have so far spent 5 days editing, inserting, and overall learning how to use iMovie.

So, I didn't trust the 'autosave' function that this software had, thus I tried to save my project by dragging the iMovie file "My First Project", a file with a thumbnail picture that was one of the ones I inserted into my project, onto the desktop and then I tried opening it.

So it opens, and I expect to see all of my stuff there.
And it says '0 seconds' with no pictures, no music; it's blank.

The problem is, my school has had random iMovie file deletions all over. In Humanities class, we were asked to make one in groups. Another person in my class had her project randomly deleted. Along with that, my group's project was not found either.

I'm concerned that this has happened to me as well, and I'd like some potential help on it, just in case I can somehow get it back.

I find the pictures used in it, all up to the end of the original movie.

But that's it; the music that I inserted, along with the text and information, is all gone or is not discernible.

The file is only 1.9 MB or something around that capacity.
