I've got to say something, because no one else has.

This is bull****. Okay?

Let me tell you why. This entire article (yes, I've read the ****ed thing) is nothing more than an attempt to morally justify an anything-to-win attitude. However, this isn't exactly why I call foul/bull**** on this article.

It is not the be all to end all.

This is not the holy answer to all the debates on this forum.

This is a load of bull**** because the entire article DOES NOT TELL YOU HOW TO PLAY TO WIN!!!

(raises flameshield for the inevitable attack)

Why?

I'll tell you why. Playing to win is simply the mindset that you want to win. Whenever I pick up the controller, I am aiming to win the match. Okay? That's it. Plain and simple. Playing to win is playing with the goal of winning. How you play, what limitations (if any) you place on yourself, ect. doesn't matter. It doesn't. Seriously!

Honestly, are you people trying to tell me that because I don't do everything in my holy power (sort of punching people in the face...that hasn't been morally justifyed...YET.) to win, that I'm not playing to win? THEN WHAT THE **** AM I DOING? Playing to lose? I sure as hell am not!

So for the love of god, quit brining this up as if its some sort of "Instant Debate Win" card.

Thank you.

im not trying to beat you if i have one arm tied behind my back.

thats illogical.

playing to win makes every one play better. assuming they are playing to win too. why? because you get better at the game to beat every one else whatever they might be running.

how do you not understand that?

WANTING to win and playing to win are two seperate things.

He says everything to win that is LEGAL in a tourney (You can't cheat, hit people, do other stuff that is illegal in society). If you don't do it, you can't win the tourney. Read the part where he says "Scrubs play to win but with their own fictious rules that is in their own mind." So yes, you are trying to win, but within your mindset. In truth, everyone does this to a degree.

I don't get why you are so angry about this article.

I'm getting angry because it's thrown around like it's some sort of godlike answer to all the debate threads.

And the whole hitting someone was just me being an arse. You guys can ignore that/laugh at it. (I'm not good with humor...so sue me.)

And Xanderous, get your head out of your ego centric ***. It says Play to Win. HOW THE **** ELSE AM I SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT!????

Ah man you know I like you so Ill let you be pissed about this, I wont give you a hard time.

But I still think you misunderstood the article, and that it is all encompassing in defining a mindset geared towards improvement free of intellectual roadblocks ie : being a scrub. vs one that would do the exact opposite, and get hung up on a few grabs being chained together, or any other such thing.

i dont, unless you count playing a character i like the most. then i do.
That is what I mean. Stuff like that. It doesn't really make you a scrub, but we all do stuff that makes it "harder" for us to win due to something in our mindset.

Mine is also character selection.

Edit: The article is teaching the mindset of what it takes to become the best you can at the game. That is it. There is nothing else about it.

your not playing to win if your playing with ficticious rules, your playing to play your own game. you may try to win in your own game, but that dosent matter on the large scale.

Again, the whole mindset thing isn't what I'm complaining about. I'll leave that to tourney players and whatnot. I'm merely angry because people post it as if it answers everything...

And again, I think if you play with the intent to win, you are playing to win.

EDIT: Wow, Dylan_Tgna actually likes a supa-casual like me? The world is coming to an end. Pardon moi while I search for the Four Horsemen (J/K)

it's used a s a trump card because a bunch of arguments scrubs make here, he responds to perfectly in his articles. There's 4 in that series.

You offered absolutely nothing to refute the article. The article is not an attempt to morally justify the play-to-win attitude. It points out the inherent flaws of the scrub mentality. Scrubs play with an unwritten set of rules: "We have to play in accordance with the creators' intent." "We cannot use anything that makes it too easy to win." "We can only win using moves provided by the game." "We have to win using complex prebuilt combos." I mean, honestly, where do these rules come from? Who decides them? Where is the line for "cheap"?

Contrary to what you believe, there is nothing immoral about playing to win. There never was. The whole point of any game is to win. Who in their right mind will not employ every tactic available to secure that victory? Oh that's right! Scrubs are never in their right mind!

This is kind of ironic. If you understand with the article mean, you'll get why people use it.

And if you understand that, you shouldn't become defensive when people use it.
