While looking at Ike's move set, I noticed that after explaining that one of his moves causes him to become invunerable for a brief period, they stated "This time, there are several moves like this among the heavy characters, so watch out!." my question is, are they saying that Ike is a heavy character? or simply that some heavy characters have similar moves by coincidende. Iv'e been a Marth player for years, so speed has always been more my thing than strength, help me out if anyone knows anything further.

Ike is a pretty normal-heavy character. Not as heavy as Bowser or DK, per say, but Wario weight seems about right.

Ike could very well be a heavy character if Sakurai is how he wants to design him. SSB is not directly canon to the respective franchises that the characters come from.

If Sakurai felt the need to make Ike heavy;(for balance reasons maybe) then he's going to be heavy.

I think that he's going to be on the heavy side and reasonably slow. In fact, I think that's part of the reason he's in the game at all.

Marth was really fast, had really strong attacks, and had really long range. He was a pretty broken character, and everyone hates playing against him because he can pretty much just fsmash to victory and it'll still be really hard to approach him. Obviously, things can't stay like that. My theory is that Sakurai thought that Marth's moveset needed to be slowed down to make it balanced. However, Marth has a high reputation in Japan, and making him seem slow and clumsy probably would have been inappropriate and disrespectful to his character. So instead, Sakurai decided to take him out completely and let someone more appropriate inheret the "nerfed" moveset. Ike is always portrayed as being kind of reckless, so it suits him fine.

Bah. Went down when I typed out my response.

Ike will be more or less as heavy as Link. Ragnell, which was already a big sword, got bigger when rendered in Brawl. Big swords are heavy, thus the weight of the heavy sword will carry onto Ike as long as he holds it. And yes, this is implying Ragnell's weight + Ike = Link + Equipment. I guess accounting for that Hylian shield, Link should be one rank higher.

I think Ike will actually have average or below average attack speed. It really depends on his level of utility. If they give him his ranged attack, then the character can now bait and stun with projectiles changing their game entirely. Thus since he has a sword, heavy weight and a projectile, they need to compensate by making his melee game more cumbersome, kind of like Link. If he doesn't have the projectile, then they can give him "average" attack speed. Just my view on it.

Edit - As for Pit, after seeing the cutscene with Subspace Embisarry I realized he's a lot smaller than I imagined. This isn't helping the fact his bow, when split into short swords are, well, short. Though he has the ultimate mobility with the ability to fly and his incredibly running speed, which is complimented by having a flexible projectile. His biggest downfall will be his light weight and his short ranged (albeit disjointed) melee attack range. Based on the trailer, it looks like nearly every punch n' kick character can equal Pit in range. D:

Alright, that is what i need to hear, thanks again. I've noticed that Characters with short melee range (e.g. Fox, Shiek, Pit) have one major redeeming quality. You say that Pit seems to have a nice running/dashing speed, what I have found is that using mobile attacks (while running, etc.) as a great way to get in and around the malee attacks of longer-range characters, creating very comfortable stategeys involving these characters. Anyone else notice this?

Hmm, I'm hoping he's less heavy, but more of a fastfaller, sort of like fox in melee

I see, how much slower than Marth is he, in anyones opinion.?
I'm thinking he will be very similar in weight to Link. Maybe a bit lighter. And Marth will probably come back from the looks of things.

I'm thinking all non clone chars will return (except maybe ness if he is replaced by lucas, but his moveset will return I bet)
