Forget it. If you want to keep explaining these terms you guys made up to new players over and over every other day, then go ahead. I'm not doing it anymore. I'll just refer them to you, Fino, instead.

Pluck canceling. What are you even canceling? When you pluck cancel you're just plucking and then performing another action directly afterwards- whether it be a dash, grab, aerial, smash attack... doesn't matter. You're not canceling anything.

This sort of ambiguity isn't good. Let's list all of the techniques related to Olimar and then define them. Off the top of my head...

Pluck canceling
Chain ledge canceling
Shy Guy canceling
Tether canceling
(What's up with the fetish for the word canceling? xD)
Tether hogging
Ghost pikmin
Pikmin desynchs
Stage pulling
Pluck cancelling - IMO two different definitions can apply here:
Smash Pluck Canceling - Here, you're not actually cancelling anything. Plucking a pikmin directly into an attack doesn't cut any frames or any lag. All you are doing here is being fancy.
Dash Pluck Canceling - This is where you actually cancel frames and lag. Dashing and plucking to pivot cuts the frames it takes to pivot by 8 (according to hilt). I dunno if he 8 frames faster is faster than a regular pivot, or 8 faster than shielding to pivot. Also, I would like to test if pluck dash cancelling applies to landing and then dashing... because it feels like it.... but it's probably not true.

Chain ledge cancel / tether cancel - is there a difference? The only thing I can think of here is either "tether" and "chain" or the whole thing with the ledge. You can cancel the end lag of a tether play landing on a platform or SH tethering. You can also pseudo cancel the tether when it hits the edge by pressing down immediately when it hits the edge. This is a technical cancel, even though no frames or lag is considered. It's like diddy's peanut cancel; all he is doing is is not shooting a peanut even though he has his peanut popper out.

Shy Guy Cancelling - Do you have to ask dan?

C'mon *puts on sexy seductive face*
(thanks for teaching me that one skank ;D)

Tether hogging - Really? isn't it... self explanatory? People who have never played a smash game competitively before brawl and who just picked up olimar and just learned what tether recovery meant understood what the term "tether hog" meant"
Tether.... edge hog.... Tether hog. Really... it's quite simple dan
*face desk*

Ghost pikmin / pikmin desync - quit life... now
*face desk harder*

Stage Pulling - Did... you... even read... my guide?
*bleeding face desk*

this thread is kinda stupid dan... no gunna lie... I expected this kind of thing from a scrub... not you - inb4lock

No, I think this thread is well needed. I don't think our terms apply very well to our ATs and Pseudo-ATs. I think it's moreso the names for them that need redefining, rather than the actual definitions, as most of them are self-explanatory.

Pluck Canceling:
Okay, I refer to them as these

Smash Canceled Pluck - Contrary to belief, this DOES, in fact, cancel something, although it is not lag or any frames used for an attack. It instead cancels the "Pluck Animation" the pikmin is going to into another attack. However, I still don't think this name is fitting, because it limits it to only smashes, when, in fact, pikmin toss, grabs, and pikmin chain, are just as easy to perform out of a pluck when it is your only pikmin. And if you do a hop, you can do any aerials or specials from the air with the pikmin if it is in your control zone.

So I think this would be the legit definition of "Pluck Canceling" because you are infact canceling the pluck animation of the pikmin into something else. The other definition is entirely different.

Pluck Canceled Dash - I'll usually refer to this as "Pluck Dashing". This, like fino said, cancels the lag you WOULD have had from stopping or turning around, by plucking a pikmin. Fino's definition defines it well, tbh.

One thing that always bothered me was Pikmin Desyncs.
The fact of the matter being... the pikmin is NOT desync'd! @_@

In fact, the pikmin is perfectly in sync with Olimar's movements, but is only moving from another area. When you look at Ice Climber Desyncs, they're moving at different times, instead of relatively at the same time like they normally do. This is not the case with Olimar and Pikmin, as the pikmin WILL move with Olimar. Not demanding a name change since we've called it this forever, just wanting to point out that it isn't accurate.
