If Smash only represented one series...

Lets pretend for a moment that smash only represents one Nintendo series instead of all of Nintendo.

Super Smash Mario Bros...?​

Now if the Smash rosters stuck to the same amount of characters for each installment, who would make the cut for the different Nintendo universes in your mind..?





So, now that the wheels are turning...




1st- Select a universe (ex. Pokemon, Zelda, Mario, Retro, whatever you can think of... Preferably Nintendo/closely related to smash for "Smashesque" taste)

2nd- Complete a "Smash roster" for the series, beginning with the 12 character roster from Smash 64.

3rd- Then, if the universe has enough depth, you can move on to the deeper roster sizes of Melee (25-26), and then Brawl (35-39). Or if you're really digging deep, you can shoot for a "projected" Smash 4 roster (for now lets say between 43-50). But if you can't get there, don't hurt yourself! a 12 character roster is fun to make too!

The Fighters​

I tried my best to keep personal bias out of this the best I could! (Only Greninja is a Pokemon that scrapes my top 20) I chose these 12 Pokemon based on, really, how popular they are and how well they're pushed by GameFreak.

Now we know how the top row works, but I imagine the bottom row working like this...

Meowth - Run of the mill speedy, lightweight character.
Blaziken - Fast, powerhouse with great air game. Middle weight and a fast faller. Subpar recovery however.
Gardevoir - Ranged fighter. Has many projectiles.
Gengar - Sneaky, great at spacing and pokes. A fighter that knows the perfect time to strike rather than going all out at once.
Garchomp - Pure intimidation. Super fast and fairly strong. Can make itself even more terrifying with a well-timed Swords Dance. (Similar to WFT's Deep Breathing). Big target with little to no armor on any attaks.
Sylveon - A fighter focused on survivability. Having a lot of moves that also heal when used. Actual damage output only okay however.

1. Pikachu - mascot of the series. Already been in smash
2. Charizard - already been in smash, Immensely popular
3. Greninja - already in smash
4. Lucario - already in smash
5. Gengar - fast, heavy, powerful. Could be deadly.
6. Scyther - quick scythe attacks, and bug buzz maybe?
7. Dragonite - my 2nd favourite reasonably sized Pokémon (behind lucario)could be quite a good fighter being a dragon and all
8. Blaziken - everyone likes a giant rooster fight. Just ask Family guy!
9. Mewtwo - possibly the list popular legendary Pokémon. Already in melee.
10. Jigglypuff - you can't have a smash game without Jigglypuff!
11. Infernape - fighting monkey will fit right in to a fighting game
12. Emboar - another fighting/fire starter. Starters are always popular why not throw as many as you can into the game.
13. Sceptile
14. Typhlosion
15. Empoleon
16. Delphox
17. Chesnaught
18. Swampert
19. Meganium
20. Blastoise - I think that's all of the starters that could look good in a fighting game.
21. Hitmon(lee/chan) - either one are some of the coolest fighting type Pokémon
22. Graveler - I would have said Golem, but he's ugly in my opinion.
23. Regirock - two arms, two legs, legendary.
24. Weavile - quick and deadly
25. Mega Kangaskhan - they could work like Rosalina and Luma
26. Machamp - anything you can do with two arms you can do better with four arms.
27. Heracross - fighting and bug type.
28. Ludicolo - hilarious Pokémon would love to have in a HD smash game.
29. Gardevoir - Psychic moveset sort of like Zelda's.
30. Garchomp -Terrifying land-shark powerful and would probably be a good fighter.
31. Zoroark - People seem to like Zoroark so why not add him?
32. Bidoof - just throw him in to the roster as a fun joke.
33. Plusle and Minun - tag team like ice climbers except with electricity instead of ice.
34. Victini - small and quick. Has some powerful attacks.
35. Milotic - could be a fairly unique fighter because of its shape.
36. Pichu - why not eh?
37. Dusknoir - ghost Pokémon. Could have some sneaky moves.
38. Raichu - a more powerful Pikachu. (But slower because its trainer made it forget agility)
39. Poliwrath - Belly drum, hypnosis, waterfall, Mach punch could be a basic moveset for it.
40. Houndoom - there hasn't been any dogs in smash. Could be fun.
41. Wailmer - I don't know why, but a bouncing-based moveset would be awesome. Also it could call a Wailord for a final smash.

This should actually be a game. Someone should pitch this idea to have smash bros spinoff games like this.

Pokemon seems like the obvious choice and a Smash based real time Pokemon fighter would definitely be a hit.
Many have gone for multiple generations though, which strikes me as wrong for a Pokemon version of Smash 64. Only gen 1 was around back then.

Pokemon: One issue I have with most people's rosters here is that there are latter gen Pokemon in their starting rosters, whereas I feel it should be only 1st Gen as these were the only ones available at that time, with the later games introducing later gen Pokemon. Here goes:

The bottom row is the unlockable four. I feel this roster gets a good mix of the possible types and weights whilst sticking with Pokemon that are fairly popular/iconic. Gyarados and Lapras potentially deserve a spot as well but aren't physically suitable in my opinion.

This roster also ignores cutting the clone characters, so feel free to swap the five of them with Reyson, Naesala, Tibarn, Kurth, and Volug. I'll also admit, I really don't like many of the Laguz aside from the ones I just listed (and I don't like Volug, just listed for the sake of having a wolf), so I wasn't inclined to include many of them to begin with.

And yeah, Tiki's a manakete, not a Laguz, so I didn't count her. And I counted her Awakening form instead of her Shadow Dragon form cuz then she's not an annoying chibi.
