If I start playing Project M...

...will it hinder my Brawl-playing? I know people like M2K can play all the games they want and still retain tech-skill/prowess in them all, but I struggle with maintaining control over a game if I've spent too much time with something else.

Has anyone picked up Project M from just playing Brawl and found that they can still play both to the best of their abilities?

Quite a strange question, but I'm thinking about learning to play Project M and would like to know if anyone has been through this already. Thanks! Psy,

p.s. No, I don't already play Melee, and Yes, I do know what Wavedashing and L-cancelling are

It shouldn't, so long as you can manage the strategic and tactical differences between the two games in your head. Mechanically, Project M nearly eclipses Brawl, so there will be little to no retraining that needs to be done when you switch games; all you need to do is remember what works in which game and what doesn't.

Seeing different kb trajectories, kb distance, %, etc. may be confusing. Switching to Melee is difficult for me because the movement feels very different and I use moves like f-tilt forgetting that they're different.

It may hinder your brawl playing if you don't come back to it every once in awhile but I suggest you give Project M a chance. I used to play brawl exclusively with my friends but now we like Project M so much more. The combo potential, balance, and general pace of the game is so much better! Plus there is a bigger scene than there is for brawl. Give it a shot you won't regret it.

The hardest things to adapt to on the spot are the different shielding and dashing mechanics. I suggest you take at least 10mn of training when switching back and forth so that you don't screw up when it's important not to.

As for "does it affect your performances", depends. If you just add training time for PM on top of your current Brawl training time, it shouldn't. If you just split your current training time in two, then of course you'll be less effective in Brawl.

But it's totally doable, don't worry too much about it.

Try not to play your brawl main on PM unless, your quitting brawl.

When I came from Brawl, I was worried about this too. But I've realized two things:

1. PM is more engaging, deep, and fun
2. Once you play PM, having tech skill in Brawl is literally no problem. Things that seemed technical to me in PM are now easy for me to pull of when I put in Brawl. Overall, you'll just have better fundamentals, so adapting back to Brawl isn't so hard.

Fix'd.

Also, when I went back to Brawl, character's felt extremely floaty. PM is a much better game for competitiveness. It gives a deeper understanding of what it means to have technical skills. Just spend some time on both games to get accustomed to the floaty-ness. This was the major road block for me.

Thank you for the feedback, guys! I'm going to try and get Project M on my PAL Wii and I'll try to main someone different to my Brawl main :)

Just so you all know, you did the Project M community proud by being really supportive. Again, thank you!

You might want to try playing on stages that don't resemble one another, tbh. On occasion, I get confused in PM and Brawl when I play Battlefield or Smashville because similar graphics.

It doesn't matter you'll probably quit Brawl anyways after a short while.

It'll probably get to you a good bit, but you'll just have to practice brawl for a few hours to get the feel of it over PM if you start playing brawl again, that worked for me
