Idea for Future Smash Bros. Rosters...

This idea is so crazy, I haven't even convinced myself about it yet.

I say that because I support both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U versions sharing the same rosters.

This is just an idea that popped up in my head.

Basically, if Nintendo decides to have Smash Bros. games on both their handheld and home console again in the future, this is how the roster could turn out.

Half the roster will appear in both games. It'll feature all the big stars like Mario, Link, Samus, etc.

Now, what's the other half? Well, let's just say half of the Assist Trophies will appear in both games as well.

You know where I'm going with this, right?

Characters like Saki would be Assist Trophies in A version, and Fighters in B version.

Don't get the wrong idea. You won't be playing as Andross or Mother Brain anytime soon. Think more along the lines of Issac, and Dark Samus. The ones that can be turned into Fighters.

Which game each character will be a Fighter/Assist Trophy depends on what kind of platforms they appeared on in the past.

If a character only appeared on home consoles, they'll be a Fighter on the home console version. This same character will be an Assist Trophy on the handheld version.

Like I said, I still don't fully support different rosters. Too much work and it could end up being unfair. This is just an idea I thought of.

What do you think? This post is very confusing, so sorry about that!

If you are saying that the 3DS and Wii U versions will have different fighters..... no.

well, I don't like it, plus aren't Nintendo going to try and do a conjoined system next time? I think they were talking about it.

Now that's better. I don't care if you hate it, criticize it all you want.

I think Nintendo might give home consoles one more try. After that, it's all on the handhelds. They'll have plenty of power by then. HDS, anyone?
So you want a way to be able to use the AT as fighters, like in a new mode?
Not exactly... Try reading it again... Like I said, this is a stupid idea I just wanted to share!

that kinda is what you're saying though. split the ATs and make some playable on one platform and the rest on the other platform.

Maybe if the games were released a few years apart, like the Mario Karts of the world, but if the two games are meant as companion pieces for each other, I don't think it's a great idea.

this leaves room for a whole mess of problems. Like say friend A likes smash character from A version while friend B likes smash character from B version. Which version do they play? In the end one person will be disappointed in that scenario. It's because the character acts as the avatar of the player, Character inclusion will always be a very touchy subject.

It really is all about the design of these characters. The effort needed to create a unique character is mental effort, not technical barriers (not 100% true, but true enough). Either way, a character speculation thread is already a bit iffy, one for a game we cannot even foresee in the future is a bit much.

You may be able to find a discussion for something like this in the Character section in one of the speculation threads.
