I got the files and went ahead and tried to get Project M to work. I got to the loader menu and hit Play, but instead of taking me to Project M, it simply returns me to the Wii Menu.

I'm using the hackless version. What am I missing?

I think there's a thread about this already, though, I don't recall if a solution was posted there or not. As far as personal experience goes, this has only ever happened to me when I press the 'start' button on my gamecube controller instead of 'A' for 'launch game'.

I had the same problem with the newer launcher. The disc wouldn't spin and I'd go back to the main menu 90% of the time which was annoying and time consuming. This was the "solution" I discovered.

If you still have and older version of Project M find the "boot.elf" file and put it onto the 3.0.2 SD Card. If not, download the linked file below, find the boot.elf in the gecko os folder and put on your 3.0.2 SD Card.

http://geckodownloads.googlecode.com/files/gecko1931.zip

This won't fix your hardware problem but instead of going back to the main menu, you'll get a "no disc found" error. Click B then A and the game will eventually launch. Hope this helped.

Edit: Noticed you don't use a Gamecube controller, obviously the buttons will be different.

I tried to move the boot.elf file from the Gecko folder to the SD Card, but it said "this disk is write-protected" and won't let me do it. What gives?

And the original boot.elf file that's currently on my SD Card can't be deleted or moved.

is your SD card lock on or off? Try fiddling with the movable lock button on your SD card as sometimes you can inadvertently lock it when inserting it in and out of the Wii console.

I'll check that. I used a GameCube controller this time and the first time, I hit "A" to play and it sent me back to the Wii Menu. When I tried again, the title would hang at the Stage Builder screen instead.

Well, it turns out the SD Card was locked, so I unlocked it, got the Gecko OS boot.elf, plugged it in, went to Stage Builder, and launched the game from Gecko OS.

It simply launched me to the original Brawl game. No Project M .

k, do you have homebrew? You have gecko os so I assume yes.

download this: http://projectmgame.com/en/download/dl.php?f=homebrew_wifi

then download this: http://projectmgame.com/en/download/dl.php?f=gecko_wifi

replace the gtc file with the one you just downloaded

then put everything in the homebrew folder into the root of your SD card (BACK EVERYTHING UP FIRST), insert your SD card and run it FROM THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL/GECKO OS. I am assuming that you've got the installation instructions wrong somewhere, but if you follow these instructions then it should work (if it doesn't then there's something wrong)

I downloaded the Gecko as an alternate, but I don't have Homebrew since I was attempting the hackless version.

I have this same problem, and I don't have a Gamecube or Classic controller to use. And I don't want to have to use any kind of hacking. So, do you think it would work pressing + instead of A? (can't check right now, so just wanted to ask) Or would there be a way to make it work using only the Wiimote?

Just wanted to add, I've also been having this issue. Followed the troubleshooting guide exactly, and I keep getting sent back to the wii home menu. I have a gamecube controller and use it to navigate the launcher. I should note that I have played Project M on this wii before. I had whatever was the most current version in august, and today I did a clean install to the same SD card after formatting it, and it won't work.

Mine is up to date. I looked up that thing that asks things like the format of the SD card, making sure Brawl doesn't try sending stuff through the Internet, and all that stuff seems to be right. The only thing I could think of is that sometimes my Wii has a hard time reading the Brawl disc.

Here's what my sd card looks like, and I'm not sure why mine seems to be different from most others that I see. http://s29.postimg.org/64u9rkg0n/SD_CARD.png

What version is your wii's system currently at?
My system is up to date. I did literally every single step, step by step, of the troubleshooting image on the Project M page, including using different SD cards... and no luck. That seems to mean it's a problem with my Wii or my Brawl. Thoughts?

Yeah my wii can no longer read the brawl disc, or many other discs for that matter. When the problem occurred, the pm launcher started taking me back to the wii menu. I now use my friend's console. His console used to be at 4.2, but didn't work until I updated it to 4.3. While the pm launcher didn't work with 4.2, the gecko operating system did work, so I recommend trying that.

Still nothing, although something else I've noticed is that even when I updated through the Project M menu, it does not stay saved, or at least it doesn't seem like it does.

When booting the startup, I noticed something along these lines showed up:
Eventhook code failed

I redownloaded it. I'm willing to be Firefox stopped midway through at one point because the screensaver came on, so I had an incomplete file. This time it's working just fine.

I need help aswell. I downloaded homebrew full set and the project m launcher either gets stuck on a black screen or takes me back to the Wii menu. I updated the launcher and it still dosen't work. I downloaded the homebrew 5 times but still no luck. I formated my 2gb SD card to FAT32 and still no luck. I need help. Do I need gecko OS? Because in the video's they never mention about that. So I really need help. I've been trying do this for 2 weeks now. And also the SD option is on unlock. So please reply back and god bless you.
