It's been a long time since I've visited SmashBoards. So I'd thought I'd bring up something that's been on my mind for a while: CUSTOM STAGES.

I think that was one of the greatest features of BRAWL.

If you recall, Sakurai said he pictured the player "taking customized features and uploading it to the Wii U version". That could be the secret connectivity of the 3DS and Wii U versions that they'll discuss in more detail in the next Direct. Which makes sense, considering they just mentioned custom move sets.

But that's just me. What you think?

DO YOU THINK THEY'LL MAKE IT BETTER THAN LAST TIME IF THEY DO BRING IT BACK?

It wasn't that bad. Basics first, then advanced stuff. Also, loading times.

I'd love to see a GOOD editor! But if they are going to put something like Brawl's, I think it's better if they do nothing.

Again, basics. But more features is good.

More features mostly; Now that a lot of resources aren't going into SSE, I'd love to see it branch off of the basics. It definitely had potential, but one of my big problems with it was you couldn't really edit parts much themselves

also generic backgrounds; needs more paint/freedom

It'll be Wii U exclusive, just watch.

And to support my case, we'll be seeing the bigger stuff once Smash 3DS hits and there's nothing left to reveal for that version. All we'll have left are stages and game modes, and maybe some online.

Custom stages sucked in Brawl, but that's no reason to remove it. They definitely should bring it back and greatly improve the way it works, such as enabling the ability to have both "walk off" stages and stages with water as a floor. Perhaps even stages with acid rising if people like, although that'd be kinda questionable.

Honestly I would prefer if they sunk the dev time into creating more actual stages or characters, as i hardly ever touched brawl's stage builder

However im not totally opposed if they manage to vastly improve it. Maybe the ability to take backgrounds and set pieces from pre-existing stages? Something like that would really be great.

How many times do I have to say BASICS? XD

Still, like I said I wouldn't mind more features. But there were limits with the console, so maybe they couldn't do much with it to begin with. The only limit is you're imagination. Also, some stages could've turned out OP if not monitored.

If we don't hear something at E3, I assume they won't be back. That would really suck. :(

I'll second this.

Stage builder was unfortunately pretty shallow. Despite that, players made a lot of creative designs. I know I enjoyed the hell out of it, but its flaws are pretty clear. And because of this and the absence of any sort of story mode, the team could manage to make a better stage builder. After all, I know that other people would love to be able to place other things on the stages like lava or water and just have more options for parts and customizing overall.

I used this hacked stage creator program to make these awesome maps. I was able to place spawn points.
That should be in the new stage creator, along with a lot of new features. Having NPC enemies like goombas would suck though.

I'm totally okay with that. Heck, I'm okay with Wii U getting a very extensive mode while the 3DS gets Brawl's stage builder ported.
That could actually be the case at this point. We'll all know for sure when the E3 announcements are made on Tuesday. Maybe.......

Hey, SmashBoard Moderators! You think you embed a lifestream video on the site? With live chat with friends and whatnot?

There is a lot they could do with it. I'd love it if they made a really complex stage builder.

I would not be suprised what so ever if this came back, and is way more worth it, also wii u exclusive,

If we don't here about it at E3 its gone

For example of it being better,

The boxes with item item is way to big and incorrect for a few of them, this will be more tight and being able to make more unquie stages.

But don't forget about the connectivity part. We may end up getting it on the 3DS version first (if at all). On the flip side, it could be one or the other. Or even both. But only time will tell.

One other thing I think would be awesome is if they had that stage of the day kind of thing on Miiverse with integration. Or, you could post your stages on your profile page in Miiverse and other people can check it out if they want.

I would personally prefer just 1 extensive stage creator for both versions with more objects, backgrounds, option for main fighting platforms (for example like battlefield's main fighting platform but with a bunch of custom made ones to accommodate different environments), or perhaps even utilize amiibo and be able to scan in stage creator parts (for example Super Mario World brick block or question block granted it would be easier to just put in parts like this from the get go).

Right behind you with a knife.
I think a stage builder (hopefully with more options) is still pretty likely for the Wii U version, but given the information we've seen for Smash 3DS, and how the stage builder wasn't there, I kind of doubt that it will have one.

I agree with ya, the stage builder was great.
I would've thought that on a site of predominant Battlefield/Final Destination players that they wouldn't need a complicated stage builder. It was perfect for making stages similar to smashville or remaking certain parts of Delfino.

My only want is to be able to adjust the blast zones. Then I could have a stage with a high roof but really easy to be KOd on the sides. This would also let people add walk off edges and prevent the camera from going under the stage.

Stage Builder was so much fun, I really want it to return and be improved as well. I've been hoping for its confirmation.

I doubt they will, but if they by some chance did, I'd be ecstatic. I loved custom stages, and if I can have more options and such, I'd be even happier.
