There's all this talk about new characters, but I doubt there will be any more. The game is too close to release for them to program more than a few more characters, plus they would've been announced at this year's E3. I'm not saying there will definitely not be any more characters, but these threads that are talking about how every minor character from every little game are going on too far. SSB:B is not Marvel vs. Capcom. They can't put in a billion characters, especially considering how much stuff like bonus modes they're putting in. Wii disks aren't can't hold as much data is these posts suggest.

I think a large portion of the SSB:B fanbase will agree with me when I say I'd rather have ~30 balanced characters that look great and well polished than ~100 unbalanced characters that look unfinished and have cheap infinite combos.

tl;dr: There probably aren't going to be more new characters than the ones announced last year at E3, if there are going to be new characters announced, there will only be a few.

And by characters, I'm talking about fully playable ones. I hope there's dozens of assist trophies because if they're anything like the assists in Capcom's fighting games they'll be kickass.

As for returning characters, I wouldn't worry about that. I'm sure most if not all of our favorite SSBM characters will return.

You don't seem to realize that they're not putting up character bios as the characters are being programed. The final roster is probably done and programmed by now, they're just waiting to slowly release the new characters. If you were right and they didn't reveal anybody else, then Smash Bros would only have like 12 characters, and...well, that was two generations ago.

There's a LOT of game content that they haven't shown off yet. They're deciding to slowly let info trickle out, rather than blowing it all out at one event.

I agree with anders kaiser, greg, the programmers are probably done with the game.

Just waiting for the X-mas season to rake in some big money.

I can understand about the balance part, but saying that there will be no more characters then announced is silly.

As the others have said, they're more then likely all programmed in. Besides, what about the unlockable characters?

You misread my post, I said that they will not announce any NEW characters.

I'm sure almost all of the old characters will be there, they just haven't put up bios yet. I'm saying that Snake, Wario, Zamus, MK, and Pit are probably going to be the only ones that weren't in the other 2 SSB games.

Basically I'm saying the ZOMG THEY'RE GOING TO PUT IN SONIC AND TINGLE AND RIDLEY AND MEGAMAN AND MIDNA AND WOLF LINK threads are pointless.

Just cause they haven't announced any new characters since E3 2006 doesn't mean that there aren't going to be any in the game. It's called "Make people want the game more by not telling everyone every single character so they have to buy it and unlock everything". This is why I bought Melee. I wanted to see all the new players and be surprised when I unlock a new feature/character. If you still don't get what I'm saying you can pop your disk of Melee into your GCN without any memory cards and go to the character selection screen. See all those question marks? Those are characters that Sakurai wants you to unlock and they weren't announced before the games release because it would sort of ruin the experience of unlocking them. I know when I get my copy of Brawl I'm going to try and not talk to anyone about any secrets in the game until I unlock everything because I want to be surprised. Also, Snake is the only known "Newcomer" that is going to have to be unlocked that we will know about before the game's release. The 15+ secret characters after that will all be surprises to the people unlocking them.

Edit: ZOMG THEY'RE GOING TO PUT IN SONIC AND TINGLE AND RIDLEY AND MEGAMAN AND MIDNA AND WOLF LINK

seriously, you think there's only going to be like, 5 newcoming characters? thats just idiotic (no offense). think about it:
if those were the only newcomers, why would sakurai even bother blurring up the char selection screen in the "names" update?
plus, you seem to think, like, 5 people work at sora/hal. this is an entire company people. they're just keeping the newcoming characters secret in order to build up hype.

seriously, you've been here since 05. you should know better.

Zomg, Melee had leik, 14 new comers.

So teh Brawlz will only have leik 5 M I RITE?

On a serious note, you can't expect them to reveal every character. That's one of the most intelligent things to do ; build up the hype.

I've tried typing long explanations a million times, I can't get it right, so here's a short one.

You guys really overestimate how much space a little Wii disk can hold and underestimate how much time and resources get put into making a fully playable SSBB character.

I will admit though that Nintendo seems to be pretty good at keeping leaks from coming out, unlike Red Octave and J.K. Rowling  I'm sure there will be surprises, but not every stupid mario character because he was in 1 sports game or every shopkeeper in Zelda like this forum seems to suggest.

There could be more characters announced and then on the flipside there might not be anymore characters announced. No one really knows for certain. For me, please let everyone's fav space animal Falco be confirmed ASAP!

There is no way one of the most highly anticipated sequels to one of the biggest selling games ever will only have 5 new characters.
