Well you see i have disliked MLG for a while now, but i have respected their ability to bring the smashing community together. There are many reasons why I, and the rest of the smashing community should hate mlg.

They first shun smash, leaving most of the space and recognition for Halo. They have some more and some less blatan dis regards for the smashing community. Many people host tournaments, have a much more friendly enviroment while still having a very large smashing community. FC was probably the best example of this. A player could actually play friendly matches, and the results were recorded and posted on such websites as Youtube and fileshare for free.

MLG only allows for a minut amount of smashing to actually take place, while charging a large fee for their mainly halo venue. This would deter alot of people from traveling to the events, with the exception for a very few number of people who recieved stipends and such. Then they offered "Video on Demand" for only 25$. You could get all the most recent and intense smash matches to date.

((First they had the Anaheim finals, then they had a whole bunch of matches from such venues as MLG Las Vegas, to Orlando.))

Now if the statement above was actually true, then the 25$ i spent on VOD might actually be worth it. But the fact of the matter is people could bootleg these smash matches much faster than they would ever get posted, if they did get posted. I really wonder how people in Halo would react if they didnt get to see there Las Vegas matches, or some of their final matches. They probably would be content with the money that they spent or MLG for that matter. The only thing VOD could offer is live smash. But 90% of the live action was all halo, and often very important smash matches could be interrupted by the face of some pasty oily nerd getting ready to prepare for a halo match. Ive seen this happen way too often.

Also MLG is notorious for not having awarded many players in the smash community their dues. They have often not given pros any money they were due at all.

They also signed a contract with USA television network, but they only show smash:confused: , they must really think highly of smash. MLG says they are preparing for something big for the smashing community to look forward to in 2007. I think that this"big thing" they are cracking up is definently an Apology letter to the smash community for stepping all over them and then dropping them completley for Halo.

You want free play for a tournament with almost 200 people that needs to finish within a day? PS, there is tons of freeplay at MLG, I saw it all the time, especially on friday nights (essentially an entire night of freeplay), not to mention amatuers playing on the pro tvs on sunday (happened all the time as well). Your first point is highly inaccurate, except that you can't record at MLG, but I can name dozens upon dozens of tournaments where no matches, espcially freeplay, are recorded.

MLG is one of the cheater tournaments around, I don't know where you get this information. MLG costs $30 to cover both singles and doubles. Now lets look at a midwest tournament, it costs $35 for both singles and doubles and you usually have to throw another $10 on top of that for the crew battles. I went to a tournament in DC over the weekend, it cost me $28 (10$ for singles, $10 for doubles, $8 for venue fee). MLG has 12 tvs all the same size (27", larger than most underground tournaments) and another 5-8 (depending on the event you were at) that were slightly smaller (20").

There is more content from each event than anyone would be able to bootleg, the only exception is/was OC2 where Manacloud devoted significant time/resources to record matches so that he could release a dvd. Manacloud thought very similar to MLG, he didn't let anyone else record so that he could release a DVD for everyone, this isn't being greedy, its simply ensuring that he is paid his dues and in the end he released a really high quality DVD, just as VoD releases dozens of high quality Smash matches from each event. The only exceptions stand to be New York playoffs and the Las Vegas Championship. These matches will eventually be released, but we can't blame MLG for the delay. All the main content (the recordings) are in the hands of a SMASHER, Bach, it was up to him to work on the videos and then send them to MLG, but that hasn't happened yet and Synide (who is in charge of VoD) has since asked to have the content from Bach so that the interns at MLG can work on it and actually get the content released faster than Bach can do.

As for the live event stuff, why would they devote more than 10% of the time to Smash when 99% of the people watching are for Halo? That would be very disproportionate toward Smash, and it already is.

Also MLG is notorious for not having awarded many players in the smash community their dues. They have often not given pros any money they were due at all.
This was just a stupid comment. What are you basing this on? To date, there is not a person who has NOT been paid from an MLG event, and every event in 2006 was paid in a timely manner (timing being 6-8 weeks, which is actually pretty standard for a prize award). Every event from 2005 has also been paid.

Forget about the television show, why is that so important? That isn't a slight to Smash, it would be one of those things where if we had it it woudl be awesome, but we shouldnt worry if we don't have it. Give a man bread and he will soon demand fish, I suppose. I love the face of greed and disrespect in your post.

As for the "big thing", you don't know what you are talking about. If you hate MLG, don't participate in it at all or have anything to do with it.
