Metaknight is not Kirby's rival per say, and he's certainly not evil! Let me explain what his role was in each game.

In Kirby's Adventure the evil being Nightmare was trapped in the fountain of dreams. He was still somehow causing havoc, but he couldn't be released unless the star rod was put back. Now Kirby didn't know about Nightmare, but all the trouble started the same time that King Dedede broke the star rod and hid the pieces. Meta Knight was guarding one of these broken parts of the star rod. He was preventing Kirby from making a mistake! But in the end Kirby recovers the star rod, releases Nightmare, and defeats him.

In Kirby Super Star, Meta Knight's revenge, Meta Knight appears to be trying to take over Dreamland. It was confirmed from an official source (I don't have the link now) that he was possessed by Nightmare.

In Kirby and the Amazing Mirror Meta Knight is actually good from the beginning. He goes into the mirror world to try to stop the chaos, but when he enters, an evil version of himself is created.

Well, yogho, I don't think it's fair for you to assume that a simple reveal of a part of Meta's character would nerf the Kirby franchise. The OP's point is that, regardless of the Kirby franchise, the creator of Meta might have some personal desired event to happen around Meta, and he may include it in Brawl, since it will be his last chance to personally be involved with the character.

The thread is to ponder what this event may be.

Your idea that it would cause some harm to the Kirby franchise for there to be some story development outside of it is unfounded, as a change in story can be summed up in the intro to the next Kirby game, as such:

"... After Meta Knight was found to have tried to conquer the world, Kirby imprisoned him within the Fountain of Dreams, only to discover that..." etc, OR:

"... Kirby and Meta Knight were pitted in a duel, whereby Kirby threw fate to the winds and asked the intentions of his aggressor. Meta Knight pulled off his mask, and claimed to be eternally loyal to the safety of Dream Land. This shocked Kirby much, but he had other matters on his mind. (SSE ends here, description of next Kirby game ignores this, but continues as if to segue from SSBB to this theorhetical Kirby game) Taking Meta Knight's abilities into consideration, he developed a plan to launch an assault on the state of gloom that had taken hold over Dream Land. Take control of either hero as they fight to restore peace..." etc etc.

Do you see my point?

I wasn't stating what Metaknight could, or should do in Brawl's story. I was merely clarifying whay Metaknight did in his own games, as a lot of people seemed to not know.

My previous post was describing Metaknight as he is in the Kirby games. In those he has never been evil, nor has he fought Kirby out of a grudge.

EDIT: Whoops! I thought the above post was talking to me. Sorry.

That's a good chuck of info I didn't know... 0.o

But... Are you sure about the Kirby Super Star part... I'm willing to bet that it could be true for the japanese version's plot, but in the english version Meta Knight frequently speaks with his fellow "knights" and does so in a polite & at times almost kind manner...

Hardly the normal behavior of a nintendo character when possessed by something evil...
