Is it just me, or is dash-dancing still hard in this game? I actually have to take my right index finger and go left-to-right quickly on my left analog stick, although that clearly leaves me at no advantage because I can't hit any of the buttons while moving my character. It was easy in Melee and Project M, but not in Brawl and not here either.

It's not anything to do with the 3ds, it's the game its self. Dash dancing in smash 4 is the same as brawls dash dancing

It's not very useful, so I would advise against trying too hard to damage your 3DS for a trivial ability.

I heard there's not much point to dash dancing in this game. Especially as WFT.

I believe they said during some announcement or official stream that dash dancing has been removed. I have no sauce though. Check earlier E3 or treehouse recordings, I think that is where I heard it.

No, it's still in.
It's just highly difficult and impractical. There's a reason the thread where I got this GIF was called "How to break your 3DS - Pikachu Edition" or something along those lines. You can, however, also achieve a similar effect to the Melee-styled dash dancing through another method. In the demo I found this easiest and most effective with Mario and Pikachu.
I think it has something to do with characters' dashing animations. Characters that do a little hop before running get the best results whilst characters like Link who run like a human, are butts. If that's not the case, then I assume it's to do with stopping animations instead.

The Pikachu GIF shown by Rascal is pretty much what I am doing, which is indeed Dashdashing. The difference is that I'm using Mega Man, who I'm assuming has a dashdance so difficult to perform, you need your fastest finger in order to do it.

It is the Brawl version of Dash Dancing so it isn't very useful at all. Hard to perform with very little reward.

Just use Fox trotting, Mario and Pikachu for example can do a pretty quick fox trot and it gives you a nice mobility boost.

Or you could play the game as it was intended.
Nah man, too much to ask.

(Seriously though, combos were never intended in Street Fighter, and now they're the building blocks of fighting games. I don't think we shouldn't use something just because it wasn't intended. That's not competitive thinking, that just hinders your ability to win. Only if it's a severe glitch)

It's extremely difficult to do but I've done it with my index finger. I can maybe pull it off for one second with my thumb and truth be told, I would like to practice it. It's actually very satisfying.

Truth be told this is how people in Japan are breaking their 3DS analog sticks. Try it when the Wii U version comes out. It'll have a sturdier stick.

Dash Dancing is too narrow to be useful, just fox trot if you wan't mobility. Don't wren your 3ds.

I am glad you can't. I really hate those exploits like danshdancing.

I can actually dash dance somewhat well on the 3DS game. It's useful when using Mega Man, anyway, due to him being a ranged fighter, so I can make people think I'm going to go one way, or I can close gaps a little bit without being overly predictable.

Combos were never intended in Street Fighter
Correction: Combos were discovered by accident when developing Street Fighter (2), but were then integrated into its gameplay when the testers found it fun. Dash Dancing is a quirk, which accidentally became useful for practical play, which is a different thing.

That being said I'm also bummed Dash Dancing ain't a thing anymore.
