I believe the roster is pretty **** good.

Sakurai ****ed up on R.O.B. and no Ridley,Isaac,Krystal, etc, but look at all the other characters. He SAID HE WOULD REVEAL THE CHARACTERS ON THE DOJO BECAUSE OF THIS VERY SITUATION: the internet will put it out anyway. The problem here is that we're so used to the GREAT additions such as Pit, Meta Knight, Pokemon Trainer, Captain Olimar, King Dedede, Lucas, Ike, Diddy Kong, Sonic and Wario that we take their additions for granted.

Now, imagine the Dojo only had the returning veterans announced and just Pit, Meta Knight and maybe Ike announced. Imagine getting all of the info we have known since last year last night ALONG with Ganondorf, Marth, Ness, Lucario, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Falco, Wolf, etc.

Would you still see it as a disappointment?

Didn't think so. It's really a trick of the mind in my opinion. We're used to seeing all of the amazingly cool new characters that we a "Meh" approach. "Yeah we got Sonic, the most requested character of all time, but that's old news"

Now, excuse me for speaking so generally about everyone, but I do believe this is the main reason a lot of people are upset. I feel this is why I was angry at first, too.

Yes, Nintendo did **** up bad on having R.O.B. No, not because he's not unique and interesting. I actually think he's going to be a fun addition. Where Nintendo DID **** up is on fulfilling their own desires FIRST(and apparently, solely) before putting in characters such as Ridley and company for FAN service. Really, the mind set Sakurai had when doing that must of been out there.

But yeah, lets not dwell on the lack of the 3 or 4characters everyone really wanted, and look at the grand scheme of things. We are basically getting 20 or so more characters if Falco, Ganondorf and Ness aren't clones. You take away Roy, Young Link, Falco, Ganondorf, and Doctor Mario and you basically had a 20 character roster in Melee.

Overall, I give the roster an 8 out of 10, and just like people got over Melee's disappointments, the same will occur with Brawl. This is, afterall, a SUPERIOR line up.

Thanks for reading my wall-o-text. I'm going to find someone to insert their cartridge into my slot(inside joke for a few people here).

If all we had known were veterans until today, everyone would be like "OH MY GOD PIT AND METAKNIGHT"

ya know i like to look at the roster overall, not from what we got in the last 2 days...

its a hell of a roster....an all star cast u could say....almost

its a crying shame that metroid was so highly ignored......metroid prime 3, a very hihg profile game for the wii was given minimal consideration from sakurai

i find it so ahrd to belive that out of all the people working on brawl, not one of them considered the fact that the poll showed ridley as being the most highly anticpated character.

the arch nemesis of samus...come on! what does it take for a character to be considered !?

and ganondorf...king of all evil in zelda and of the better known bad guys is given a cloned move set from cpt falcon,. a character most people wouldnt know about if he wasn't included in previous smash installments....

i for one love the roster but feel sakurai talked himself abit too much. any game deisgner should know his player base, and sshoudl know that takign a game like melee that had time constraints to brawl whihc was given no limit is a blessing. he couldve done so much more with the roster but chose an easier route.

i applaud him on his work with the music, longevity, and pure insane amount of content he put in the game...but in the end all of that will be gone. and what will we be doing? playing vrs of course. vrs in a game that had no deadline with clone characters .

personally i only hoped for two things : wolf and ridley. as the supposed last smash game (from sakurai at least) i wanted to enjoy playing as my all time two fav characters, and im sure im not alone in that opnion.

Basically. That's not the only reason though.

Seriously, three StarFox reps? That series has had low sales since StarFox 64 and only five games. Two Mother reps and that franchise is already complete, not to mention only one game has been released outside Japan. Then we only get one rep from Metroid, which sells much higher than Starfox and has sold more games than both of those other two franchises combined? That's not saying "OMG NO RIDLEY" that's say the characters that were put in just don't make any sense...

And from what we have seen Ganondorf, Toon Link, Falco, and Ness are clones, no confirmation on Wolf yet; he still has a chance of being a unique character (the "decloned Falco" that a lot of people wanted, possibly).

Not necessarily, the fact that ROB and Wolf(over Krystal) are playable, and the fact that we have clones when we thought we would be relieved of them is what disappoints me.

You do make a point though that the addition of PT, Pit, Meta, etc did give us high expectations though.

If wolf is a clone of falco and fox, that would be the most stupidest thing I've ever seen, that's why I expected Krystal to be a PC.

Wow Sakurai & crew, wow.

On ridley:
**kind of spoiler for SSE, to be safe**
The only thing about Ridley is that he appears to be a prominent boss in SSE, and I've seen different pictures showing multiple different fights against him. it's possible that they WANTED to put him in, but it wasn't working perfectly and decided to go back and put him in as an uber boss, to try and appease fans.

I agree with the OP 100%, and it's what I've been trying to say all along. I showed my friend who hadn't been following the Dojo updates the list and he was ecstatic. he knew about snake and sonic already, but the rest was a surprise. He likes pokemanz, and getting to play as squirtle/venusaur/charizard AND lucario is exciting. he liked the cast of melee and was happy to see a lot of his favorites return. i suddenly had proof to back up my theory.

At this point that would be a dream come true.

If Ridley is a major, reoccuring SSE boss, I think that would (in my mind) make up for him not being playable. I too have seen several fights against him and we all know how that dragon just does not stay dead for anything. So having him reappear several times would be completely awesome and very fitting to his character.

Besides, we know some people are going AR him just like Giga Bowser and Master/Crazy Hands
