It's very important not to get hit, no joke cause people can "combo" Flacon really easily. You have to keep your spacing. Uair and utilt are great spacers. If you want to grab some one jab them first to set up an easy almost perfect grab situation. Also learn how to react when people tech or don't tech, so you can punish them off of that. Learn to know when you can use your dash attack because it knocks people in the air for some more combo like set ups. But the most important thing is to keep you're spacing because you will get worked if you have bad spacing. Also he has low priority so don't just flail out knee's left and right. Falcon is fast, use that to your advantage.

Not sure if it's really a good idea, but I play a pretty aerial/offstage Falcon. Nair and Uair are good for building damage, and if you get them off the edge, flub knee to uair is a beastly gimp. The knee will get them into hitstun just long enough for them to almost always get hit by the uair, and if the uair's a jump, just up B to edgesteal. Also, Bair for stage spike. Dair, even when not used to spike, is a good killer, since it's rarely decayed.

Main damage builders: Grab, Jab, Uair (unless you wanna kill with it)
Main Killers: Dsmash, Dair, Knee, Uair (if you save it), Pawnch

other considerations: Raptor boost spike, mock waveland, killing with up B (only used to intercept, and very risky. Also very badass)

That's how I play, anyway.

Im looking to pick Captain Falcon up, but I need some help.

Obviously hes not very good comparably speaking, but that doesnt matter, hes still like the coolest character in the game.

But what do you need to know to use CF? I read about the auto canceled SHDair and the lagless aerials I already knew, but what is his bread and butter?

okay obviously your not gonna falcon punch the whole game, but if your in the right situation, it could be VERY effective just for the pressure value......

I know his knee is goood,,, any tips?
Jab, jab cancels are amazing.
Like Jab -> Grab, or Jab Jab --> grab. Or even Jab (if they DI upwards) > D-tilt, D-tilt

Tilts all do about 10 damage.
U-tilt is a bit disjointed, but kinda slow. It kills at a high enough % (around 100 when you're near edges) and has decent 'priority' over aerials because of its range.

Pay attention to the direction Falcon is facing, especially when you're jumping off-stage. The up-B reaches further in the direction Falcon is facing during his jump. So if you jump off-stage facing away from it, double jump, and use up-B, you'll notice it's harder to float back on than if you jump backwards off the stage and do the same.

Don't overuse the knee. It's residue from Melee that makes people suck at Brawl Falcon.

Use Falcon Punch when you have a good read on your opponent's reaction (eg, retreating shorthop Falcon Punch to avoid and punish a dash grab/dash attack, Reverse Falcon Punch > float to the side of an opponent who's charging an up-smash). Remember that people have landing lag, and make use of it.

In general, play a little more like 'other characters' - unless you're punishing with knee/Falcon Punch, smashes are perfectly fine for killing people.

Oh, and dash grab > shield grab for Falcon lol.

You don't need to know a character to be them.
Just train with one char. then you will get better.
Training makes you know the character, so yeah, you do need to know a character.

Also, knowing the right stuff to train is very very good. Few things suck as much as practicing with a character, and then find out you're doing it wrong. reteaching habits is hard.
