How would you feel about Smash Spin-offs based around one Nintendo Series?

I was thinking about how Smash 3DS could be different from the WiiU version while at the same time thinking about how Pokemon and Fire Emblem could have hundreds of potential playable characters. The trains of thought collided in my mind and once the emergency services were gone the result was "What if there were Smash Bros Spin offs that focused on one Nintendo Franchise?"

The ones I was thinking of were Fire Emblem and Pokemon but it could work for others. A 2d Metroid shooter fighter with the hunters from Prime Hunters, Prime Corruption and other characters like Anthony, Adam and Ridley would be cool.

What do you think?

That isn't a horrible idea, but is it really all that necessary? I mean, what would a spinoff Smash game do that the main Smash series doesn't already do, besides add more characters from a specific series?

While I would like to see such a game, I don't see it as really necessary.

IMO, such an endeavour should be left to a fan game.

Basically what's been said already. It's a prospect best left to fan projects, in my opinion. While a Pokemon or Fire Emblem Smash Bros may be a fan's fantasy game, it'd really just be milking the Smash concept while making those series' characters being in Smash itself pointless.

Now, applying the Smash Bros crossover concept with other game styles, like Mario Kart, on the other hand...

I remember the first time I heard about Pokémon Stadium back in the day, my idiot brother told me it was going to be a smash bros clone with all 151 playable pokemon. Boy was I disappointed.

So yeah, its possible, but honestly why bother now.

This is my thought on the OP's post...

Seriously, it's not a all-around terrible idea, but it is poorly worded.

For starters, it sounds like you're saying either Smash WiiU or 3DS should focus on just Pokémon or Fire Emblem, which is freaking stupid (especially the latter). Most Pokémon and Fire Emblem characters would be boring playable characters.

Secondly, over 100 playable characters=??? We'll be lucky if these 2 games have even half 100 playable characters. Unless you want 15 original characters and 85+ clones, that will never happen for a hundred years.

Lastly, Metroid would be a terrible idea. For starters, all of the hunters are almost entirely copies of Samus in terms of moves they use in Metroid Prime: Hunters. And to top things off, most of the characters are too similar in moveset as well, and there are very few characters in Metroid, let alone characters that could work.

Hope you get some chemotherapy for that.

Otherwise please don't drag tired memes into this please.

I don't really like the meme, just the picture.

I used to love all those old Spider-Man TV shows, but boy oh boy, some of those screens are just amazing from that series.

Fair enough. I'll update the OP to be a little more well written. I should not make threads at midnight.

Only I can do that, and when I do that, it gets weird. Like "why are footballs shaped like basketballs on my couch as if they were couch cushions=???" kinda stuff.

I get even weirder IRL. I've told some crazy stories in crazy ways when my brain goes late at night.

It's like the darkness of night is a drug to my brain that makes the crazy me crazier to the craze craze crazies crazy place. :happysheep:

A spinoff made off a spinoff? Interesting.... A Fire Emblem-esque game with Samus and Kirby as characters? That may be.... genius.

You mean like Namco X Capcom or Project X Zone? IT would be cool, if long winded.

I just wish there was a Turn-Based Strategy Maker because that sounds like a great summer project. But back to the matter at hand.

A Fire Emblem-Centric one might work but there'd be the question of what to do with mounted units. Make it their final smash?

^^^ Such a thing would be pretty epic. A Fire Emblem all-out all-star roster collection game would be incredible, especially if the multiplayer was done right.

Also, a Fire Emblem all-stars strategy game sounds kinda epic, although Fire Emblem: Awakening is already kinda sorta that thing.

Donkey Kong Country x Metroid or Kirby could be really beautiful.

I can already see the cast list for that one

Mario: Peach, Daisy, Rosalina, Birdo
Donkey Kong: Dixie Kong, Candy Kong
Wario: Mona, Ashley
Zelda: Zelda/Sheik, ToonZelda/Tetra
Pokemon: Female Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Gardevoir, Meloetta
Star Fox: Krystal
Fire Emblem: Lyn, Michica, Lucina
Kirby: Kirby (they never did establish that thing's gender did they?), Adeline, Drawcica
F-Zero: Jody Summers
Metroid Samus (Duh)
Earthbound: Paula, Kumatora
Ice Climber: Ice Climbers (with Nana in lead by default)
Game and Watch: Ms. Game and Watch?
Pikmin: That Female Captain from Pikmin 3
Metal Gear: Meryl, The Boss
Sonic: Amy Rose, Blaze the Cat
Kid Icarus: Palutena, Medusa, Verida and Pit, absolutely baffled that such a thing exists (Hey, always a token guy in these things.)

Edit: Holy crap, I managed to get 34 potential Females plus Pit and Kirby? And I was holding back on all those Female Mario RPG Villains.

To clarify: You're talking about games that play very similarly to Smash but focus on one series at a time in order to have an expanded roster?

So, to appease the people who want all the Fire Emblem character games in Smash, there'd be a Super Smash: Fire Emblem game that has dozens of FE characters pitted against one another, and a completely different Super Smash: Dreamworld game for the people who want Knuckle Joe and Waddle Dee etc.

In my ideal world, ALL major game companies would do this. Get some competition up in here, bring some more interesting innovation to the Smash genre.

Pretty much exactly what I was trying to say. Fire Emblem and Pokemon are the most obvious due to the fact that they have such large casts but a Kriby one where they take the sidekick system of Super Star and expand their movesets would be amazing.

certainly- and the Mario one could have try to get the entire cast of Super Mario RPG! And a playable Hammer Bros, Kamek, baby Mario, all the koopalings...

I mean, I'd certainly buy... all of these games. ESPECIALLY if they were made compatible, so you could actually purchase a bunch of different games and actually play against characters from the other sets. It'd be great.

Perhaps have characters like Link ride Epona?

Link would be SO DAMN overpowered in the Fire Emblem universe I'd imagine. Can you imagine the skill Spin Attack and be able to hit all surounding enemies?

What a completely useless idea. The whole point behind Smash Bros. is to feature different styles and franchises. Seriously why.
Would be a complete waste.

The opposite could work with Mario Kart imho. Nintendo Kart is the future.

If this ever happens, I guarantee it'd happen to the Mario Series.
Yet another Mario spin-off....yay.
There's hoping the series formely known as Mario vs Donkey Kong, now called Mario & Donkey Kong becomes and actual spin off series. I'd love and actual Mario vs Donkey Kong, being able to pick the Mario or the Kong side.

The only series that I see doing this would be Pokemon and Mario/DK series (since DK chars are in most Mario series). I do not see any other series doing this idea and it working out well. Perhaps Kirby or LoZ.

How I see it...

Legend of Zelda can work with Fire Emblem.
Mario, Yoshi, DK and Wario series can be together.
Ice Climbers can work with Kirby.
Pokemon has enough to on its own.
Metroid, StarFox and F-Zero can be in one game.

But it wouldn't make sense at all anyway.
Everybody would be like "Ok nice but why they removed all the other franchises?".

I repeat: let Mario Kart die, and bring on NINTENDO KART. That's a nice idea.

Sort of like the Sonic and All-Stars Racing series? That could definitely work.

Nintendo Kart would be hella fun. I even made a roster for a game like that a few months ago.

If I recall correctly, on the official forum for SASRT, I believe someone at Sumo Digital said that Kirby was planned, but the plan never came to be. So it could probably work if Nintendo was willing to make it.

I think a Pokemon spinoff is a great idea! Especially for the 3DS.

Fight and evolve your fighters on the 3DS and then export your fully evolved fighters over to the Wii U.

You could personalize your character on the 3DS (picking out a variety of Smashes and Specials for each character) during the stages of evolution so that your exported character could be different from another of the same species.

Pokemon (with all its different types) have quite a bit of potential and flashy moves at their disposal.

Well, it would be just like Smash Brothers but with an all pokemon cast and stages. A fire stage, grass stage, water stage, ect.

I was picturing maybe eight or ten starters at the selection menu. Each pokemon evolves at least once gaining options to switch out specials and smash attacks along the way. Some have three evolutions. The last evolution can be exported to the Wii U game to be added to that roster.
