How will Sakurai represent other franchises? What is he planning for the characters?

As far as the various franchises go.

If another Expanded Marioverse character appears, it will be Diddy Kong, Baby Bowser, and K. Rool in that order. Yes, we do not have Toad yet of the Mario Sports 8, but what does Toad really do in the Mario games? He does nothing for the most part. Hell, he was only the hero in two games... Super Mario Bros. 2 where he shared playability with Mario, Luigi, and Peach... And Wario's Woods, where Toad didn't even get top billing. Toad's not essential to the Mario games. Mario & Luigi are the heroes, Bowser is the villian, and Peach is who you have to rescue. DK, Yoshi, and Wario meanwhile are representing their OWN series instead of Mario's. The other two, Daisy and Waluigi, are not possible as A) Daisy snuck into Melee as Peach's alternate outfit, and B) Wario is representing WarioWare, not Wario Land. Waluigi has never appeared in a WarioWare game, so he would be mismatched with his brother. Diddy Kong is DK's sidekick, and K. Rool is DK's villian, which makes them representative of the Donkey Kong Country series. Now Baby Bowser... Why him instead of Bowser Jr? Well, basically, Baby Bowser and Bowser Jr. have the same **** design and VA now... I'd imagine the fighter to be an amalgamation of the two. Baby Bowser gets the nod however, because then he gets to represent the Yoshi Series as the main villian.

Kirby needs Dedede playable, nuff said.

Zelda... Only Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf are important characters to the Zelda Series as a whole. I know you guys want Midna, and Skull Kid, and Vaati, and Error, but we'll be lucky to get a Wind Waker'd Young Link.

Pokemon... Well, Pikachu's the mascot and Mewtwo is the Pokemon that is best described as the final boss... Being the End Boss Pokemon of four games (Pokemon Red/Blue/Yellow, Pokemon FireRed/LeafGreen, Pokemon Stadium 1 & 2). Jigglypuff has her fans, and my guess is that Lucario (Best Representative of Diamond & Pearl) will replace Pichu, not Mewtwo.

Starfox... I guess Fox and Falco will return with their movesets from Melee, except they will have different Final Smashes... Of the next choices for a Starfox character, Krystal is really the best choice, because of her staff from Adventures. It gives her an original moveset over Wolf, who would be the next choice and who I can see being a villian in Story Mode and being a remodel with Fox's moves.

Golden Sun ought to have a representative in Brawl, and Isaac, being the first hero of Golden Sun, is a good choice... Plus, if we are going to have another swordfighter, he should have a totally different moveset from Link, Marth, Pit or Metaknight.

Mega Man and Simon Belmont are always good choices to be in a game featuring Kid Icarus. However, there is more of a chance of Phoenix Wright being an Assist Trophy, than Viewtiful Joe has of being in the game... Joe really got snubbed from the SNK vs. Capcom Card game for DS in favor of Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and Phoenix Wright.

Of course, my out of left field choices are Mac from Punch-Out!!, Takamaru the hero from that obscure Famicom Disk System game that keeps on being considered in the same group as Zelda, Metroid, and Kid Icarus, Lolo from Adventures of Lolo, and Balloon Fighter. Also Ice Climbers, and Mr. Game & Watch will stay.

Here's my response to you, SAMaine, though it isn't personally towards you but more towards the characters you've mentioned.

I personally wasn't too excited about Diddy being in Brawl. I thought the idea of Jr. popping up was interesting but nothing too special. Though when you brought the idea of expanding different franchises it really caught my attention when you mentioned Baby Bowser for the Yoshi franchise. In fact you can bring a lot of franchises more attention (Especially Earthbound since that series is basically dead)

But in saying that, some franchises are completely fine with a lone character (Wario Ware, Ice Climbers, Kid Icarus). Diddy would be a good add since he a popular character. But his moveset to me would be rather bland since hes basically a weaker version of DK. Sure he has his Peanut Popguns and a Jetpack, but after that he has nothing else to offer. I feel like if his character was playable he would just be set off to the side and forgotten. Who knows, if he pops up in the game and everyone likes him I wouldn't mind him at all. I just hope for every character in this game to provide a unique style of playing.

King K. Rool also suffers this problem. If he was playable he wouldn't offer anything new. He'd just be another big character. The only difference might be that he can throw his crown.

Another add to the Yoshi series would be nice, but we don't need another Bowser on the field. Just one version of the brute is enough for me.

I fully support Dedede. The King has appeared in every Kirby game so far. He has went from villain to partner in various games as well. He is a necessity to the series, he has to be in. Besides his style would be unique. Hes a big character, with a hammer, and he can jump multiple times.

I would love Midna to be in the game, and since Sakurai is on a Twilight frenzy she might be able to make it in. She hasn't really provided all too much for the franchise since shes only been in one game. But I can definitely see another Zelda game bringing her back, she seriously was the best partner Link has ever had. As for gameplay we need another small character to add, and shes quite powerful in the game. She took on Ganondorf after all.

Any other Zelda character has no shot at becoming playable. (I really really really hope WW Link isn't playable. Hes just too similar to Link)

I still don't know why Lucario is popular. Is it because he had a movie? I guess thats the case. Deoxys was popular too, even though you couldn't naturally get him in the game he still had a movie. Lucario is too bland for smash. He comes from a game full of elemental characters, why would the Pokemon franchise choose someone that is a fighting type? Why not Squirtle or Charmander, you know, someone that everyone can recognize.

Seriously, what does Lucario have for Brawl? Punches, kicks, and maybe an energy blast? Squirtle is at least unique, he has water attacks, shell attacks, a curly tail, bubbles, and headbutts. Lucario has nothing unique to offer, and he isn't famous enough to represent the pokemon group. He isn't even as popular as people say he is. I mean, look at these boards, many people that make a pokemon team dont even use him.

I... just.... hate the guy....

Anywho, now onto my Starfox rant. Great! Now I really doubt Falco will stay the same. He probably will return, I guarantee it. But he probably will be drastically different. Look at Kirby from SSB64 to SSBM, he changed. Why not Falco? They're going to chance Ganondorf after all.

Krystal has a shot in the game, shes a female, has a staff, and is popular. I'm actually hoping for Slippy instead. You want unique? You want someone different than Fox? Slippy would be it! Gadgets, sluggish movements, and hes short. Not to mention hes been in every starfox game.

Wolf should not be playable. He isn't that important in the franchise. And we don't need to overdo the villain aspect. Actually he isn't a villain, hes a rival. Rivals are much different then the main boss. Wolf is basically the same as Fox as well. Star Wolf, team wolf, wolfen, yeah he sounds just like Fox....

Isaac is a really good choice. Hes a swordsman who uses magic, that way he is much different than the other swordsmen. Plus his franchise was good.

Megaman and Simon are also good picks. Especially Simon since hes from the same company as Snake. They both have tons of abilites as well. Megaman with the blaster, ice gun, flamethrower, wind gun, shock gun, razor gun, etc. Simon could have whips, holy water, books, knives, axes, etc.

As for Mac, I can see him being a good add. His games were popular and had several sequals. And we don't actually have a real "fighting" character yet, so I think he has a good shot at the roster.
