How Useful is Lucas' Grab?

I've been watching Lucas videos, and playing Lucas since Brawl's release, but I've always found Lucas' grab to be too slow and it can be punished HARD if you miss. Just recently, I was reading a thread (On the tactical board, I think) which emphasized using grabs pretty often due to their priority over shields and high damage that can be done while your opponent can do nothing. Lucas even has a dthrow > utilt combo that works at low percentages.

How useful is Lucas' grab? Should it only be used when it is certain to hit, or is it fast enough to be worth it to use it in risky situations as well? I need to decide whether or not I should work more grabs into my strategy.

i would use it mostly to punish people that are predictable with shields
or to punish a slow move
b-throw/f-throw can even kill at decent %'s on some levels

also if you can get down the spacing (though it's pretty hard) lucas' pivot grab is about twice as fast as his normal grab
useful tactic to use as a mindgame or just to know you have it as an option.

If you're gonna work more grabs into his strategy, figure out how to apply the pivot grab more. It has the advantage of doing everything a grab should with less lag.

Sheik has the advantage of being able to run up and grab or run up and dash attack. Lucas does not, so grab as an approach is out. This is fine, because lucas wasn't built to approach in the first place.

Edit: Looks like you got your post in frst, pianodude, lol.

^^^Depends. Bthrow is really only useful if you are near an edge. I prefer dthrow, as it can KO at high percentages from anywhere and can lead into combos at low pecentages.

lucas's back throw is pretty viscious i believe its his stongest
disagreed.

f-throw is = or > than b-throw.
and neither one is particularly powerful unless the opponent is at 100% near the edge (or as much as 150% in the middle or against good DI).
they are very rarely viable killing options.

lucas's grab is used as a means to rack up damage.
it is not a killing move.
merely an option
unless you use pivot grabbing, it's relatively slow, so be careful.

and IMO d-throw has a guaranteed u-tilt on the whole cast at 0%, most around 10-15%, and some even as high as 30%
in the 30's and 40's you can chase w/ an u-air or fair as well.

around 160-170% u-throw will kill on most levels.
stand on the top of corneria's fin (decent CP imo) and it will kill very fast (probably around 80%)

This. Only use Lucas's grab if you KNOW it's going to connect. If you miss, you're gonna get rocked. Hard. In the face. Personally, I wouldn't even throw with Lucas. I only throw with Ness... his dash grab is beyond insane.

its good if someone just used an attack with a large cooldown, and its also a short ranged recovery option.
