Nope, not Brawl related, but there’s a great thread going on about controller modifications. Obviously most of the mods are paint jobs, but if you’ve been to any big Smash events in the past few years, odds are you’ve seen some goofy controllers making use of LEDs and color.

I painted my controller a few years ago, and was really pleased with the result. I decided on a light-blue color, with a dark blue dragon in the center. I nearly painted the buttons, but one of the modding websites I visited advised against it, since the paint can cause them to stick. And, since I was going to be using it at tournaments, sticking was not an option.

Of course, being the eager young lass that I was, I decided to paint my Gamecube as well. I even went a step further — I soldered green LEDs into the controller ports and wired them up to the Cube’s powersource, so that the ports light up whenever the Cube is turned on. It’s hard to see in the pictures, but it looked freaking awesome in the dark. Trust me.

Yep, it looked awesome. It also didn’t WORK. After putting the Cube back together, it decided it no longer felt like reading games. It powered on alright, but it couldn’t detect a CD. This is fixable — the Cube’s laser probably got knocked out of alignment — but then one of my friends snapped off the part that tells the Cube when the lid is closed. After that, I was much to lazy to fix it. Especially since my roommates had 2 more Cubes between them.

Check out the Smashboards thread here. There are some fun pictures up. Just remember, prying open your Cube and attacking it with a soldering gun violates the warranty. For a good reason. Boy is it fun, though.

If anybody has painted or modded a Wii remote, send in a pic. That’s next on my list — I’m thinking pastel pink.

Most guys don’t start out as a young ‘lass’.

Shut up. A lad is a lad. Stop insulting this dude.
Your idea was cool, but a color combination of black, red, and orange lights would be cooler.
Like the Phazon suit from Mertoid Prime 3.
