How to tilt

So my main issue is that many times when I want to do a tilt attack, I accidentally do a smash attack or dash.
How do you guys make sure you do a tilt?

Rather than slamming the analog stick + attack button at the same time, you press the attack button after moving the stick in a specific direction.

i.e. - Slide the analog stick to the right, then press the attack button.

I'm mainly having problems fast jumping and then up-air. I seem to always do an Up smash. You'll get used to tilts though, i did it and if i can do it you can too.

Lightly move the pad upwards instead of all the way (all the way is what registers a jump). It's stupid, I can't wait to turn off Tap Jump either, but the demo is what it is for now.

The demo has been really fun and I had a lot of trouble doing the shoryuken with Mega Man, but I got it down by lifting the move pad slightly upwards instead of fully.
