Hey, so I was wondering if there were any tips someone could give to someone else trying to make a combo video. I mean things like editing techniques. If anyone out there could help, that would be great. Thanks.

most people use every clip they can get and make 11 min snooze videos

just choose only your best clips and make a 3-4 min vid

Yeah. I mean a video like "The Game is Not Over" but some are not so great. Also the song I want to use is about 4 minutes. Thanks for the advice.

I agree with Lovage.
Also I would say don't use any clips from a texture modded Melee. It looks like garbage.

Every combo in a clip should be a great kill as well. Have also creative combos that no one has seen. (of course with a kill too) If the combo doesnt end in a death then it doesnt quite deliver the awesomeness of the combo. The clips could also be a string of reads, I think that's really cool too, also the clips could be something really technical you did that ended up in a death. You could also have really crazy moments that happened in Melee because we all know we havent seen everything in melee.

I think that's fine too but im not sure if you should jump to make a combo vid right away, I know that the quality of those combos wont be up to par and it will easily be seen. You have to start by at least mastering the basics of this game.. when you do then you can start to develop your own style, though it kinda happens simultaneously.

I have a big list of don'ts:

Don't overuse effects
Don't use texture hacked Melee
Don't use filler material (or keep it to a minimum)
Don't use bad music
Don't overuse mundane edgeguarding sequences
Don't extend a clip by 5 seconds just so you can finish someone off with an edgehog
Don't repeat the same combo multiple times, no matter how cool it is
Don't make the intro and credits take up half of the video

Avoid these typical mistakes and put some good clips together and you'll have a solid video.

From the editing standpoint, don't overuse effects. The video is about the players involved.

If you're opponent can't DI, it's not a combo.
Proper grammar is also important =p.

Why do so many people hate textured Melee?! Anything new you can add to Melee seems better, it's been the same for over a decade now. With that said though people to seem to have even more disdain for P:M combo videos that include goofy textures such as "Woody" over CF, but I personally don't mind it (If someone had an entire Ganon combo video with the Megatron model texture that'd be the greatest).

Brawl combo videos offer a lot in terms of learning editing styles and all that, too bad most Melee people probably don't watch much of them.

The problem with textured Melee is that a lot of texture hacks are just really "loud". High contrast colors, things like that. It's just an eyesore to look at. There are a few texture hacks that are tasteful, but eh.

Most of what everyone has said seems good so far. I'd just like to add, try to stay away from showing more than one combo at the same time. It seems like a neat idea in theory, but it's just not fun to try and follow both (or all) the screens provided.

Also, the more low tier combos, the better. :bee:

Good combos, good music (basically NO common mainstream teenager music (unless you are a complete troll) and stuff that sounds good), cool effects.
Here's an example of what a good combo video looks like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYgopUL8kk8
Although I fully agree with you, And that video you link was purely epic, I saw a combo video with little editing and using lil Wayne's Version of Swag Surfing and it was pretty good.

Then again I listen to all types of music and don't really "Hate" and/or "Diss" other people for liking/listening to "Input Any Music Genres Here" So that's probably why I liked it..That and they had some pretty good combos.

So basally after seeing the Video he linked and the one i did. It really All depends on how good you're clips in the video are. Of course Making a crazy video with tons of Crazy cool looking effects is epic in all But the clips is more impotent. Just do what you can do and make sure you have some stuff you know people would want to see.

I saw a video that used Britney Spears' "Toxic" that was pretty good.

If you can time finishing moves (KNEES) to a climax in the song, it'll make me ten times more likely to cream my pants instantaneously.

Learn After Effects. Get a Action replay. Lastly have combos that will make your pants wet.
