How to fast fall a short hopped down-air with the analog stick?

Hi, I am having some technical difficulties attempting this. It seems that my finger speed is either slow or that my timing is completely off. What I have noticed trying to fast fall a short hopped downair is that I have to lightly tilt the analog stick downwards and press A(like a forward tilt or an uptilt, considering it's the same light strength needed) *at this point I am down airing* then hit the analog stick down again and it will fast fall. Thanks to anyone who can explain how they do it so fine = ).

p.s. Please do not flame me, I already feel shame in typing this ridiculous topic on how to use a controller properly.

Really though, you're probably hitting down too early.
When you reach the peak of your jump smash down and hit A like you're doing a smash attack.
I use the c-stick though.

Try using the C-stick to execute your dairs and you're free to use the control stick to DI/FF/whatever.

However, it is entirely possible to be just as consistent with only the control stick, you just need to adjust to the timing depending on when you want to dair.

If you dair before the peak of your jump, you'll need to hit down after the peak of your jump to make sure you input a FF. However, if you wait for a late dair or after you've reached the peak of your jump, I believe you will FF automatically if you just go down all the way with the control stick for the dair.

Late D-airs with the control stick are awesome for pillaring.

Too bad I'm so conditioned to use the C-stick that I can't do them D:

But yeah, really you just have to hit down after the peak of your jump. Which means once if you aerial after the peak, or twice (once to aerial and once to fast-fall) if you aerial before the peak. Note that if you're holding down before you hit the peak, you won't fast fall.

Thanks everyone, I think the idea here is to do late dairs. I will work on the late dairs from now on and try to become more consistent with them. I heard it's hard to shieldgrab these types of dairs too.

Well they can shieldgrab you before you dair, but yeh the shieldstun will give you time to shine.

And CABC, you still can do late aerials with the C-stick, haven't you ever scooped with CapFal?

Oh and gratz on learning it.

Congrats! My friend mains Falco and he used to jump with control stick and he took forever to get better because he had way too many things going on on the left side of the controller. Eventually he just learned to play with Y and has advanced alot since then. I also suggest you use the C-Stick. It's much easier to control your character IMO.
