How to crouch cancel

Hello everyone, yesterday I got the opportunity to play a top 10 player of my region on netplay most of my approaches were total failures due to his awesome cc game which made me realise that I have no idea how to cc properly. What im asking is how do you react fast enough to do the crouch cancel and counter attack. Prior to this I have tried always holding the c-stick down which works but im still no fast enough to counter attack. So how do you guys cc and how should I do it?

C-down only gives ASDI down. You must begin the actual crouch animation to get the hitstun/kb reduction. Reacting takes practice but you can also use it as a read.

When you've seen approaches enough times, cc into punish becomes pretty second nature in certain situations. If you're projecting your approaches it can become pretty easy for your opponent to react with more time than you might think. The best way is to just play a lot of friendlies and focus on your defensive game instead of winning. You'll start to notice percentages where cc will work and you'll recognize more opportunities where you can use it. Basically, deliberately practice to learn the technique even if you end up getting bodied.
