just what the subject says. On most of marth's aerials there seems to be very little lag except for dair, and i seem to be doing okay without l-cancelling most of his moves. So how necessary is it to l-cancel? sometimes i try to l-cancel and i can't even tell if i'm doing it or not because his lag is very short. sh dbl fairs i dont even bother trying, and it's hard to get the timing for l-cancelling unless i'm shffling attacks. Oh, and i noticed that i can shuffl his dair except when I actually hit the guy with it, in which case there is massive lag and I can't seem to L-cancel. This happen to anyone else?

The same to me. I've just started to play Marth, and his L-cancel is almost unnoticiable. I used Yoshi before, so it's pretty anoying see how do or not do the L-cancel its the same :S

Admittedly, Marth's aerials are so quick that you don't really NEED to l-cancel anything except the UAir and DAir. However, if you want to get your opponent in a true combo that they can't escape from even with perfect reflexes, those extra frames you get when you l-cancel really help. Learning how to shffl' double FAirs can really help your game when it comes to raw comboing; you can more easily do shffl' FAir -> FSmash that way, as well as FAir -> UAir (in the same short-hop) -> UTilt.

to tell the truth l cancelling is quite important. whenever i play marth i get annoyed at the lag he has when i dont l cancel any of his aerials. without shffling his aerials someone can easily wavedodge or sidestep ur fair and punish.
it may seem that l cancelling is not that important now but most likely later on u will realize its importance. fast falling marths short hop aerials without l cancelling, u can definitely see the lag

L-cancelling is necessary all the time, with every move, with every character. There really isn't any time when you SHOULDN'T L-cancel.

Most of his aerials don't have that much lag so it won't completely destroy your game if you miss a few every now and then, but it is still a very important part of Marth's combo ability. You may not get punished for missing an l-cancel on his fair, uair, or nair but you'll miss a great combo opportunity. If you miss an l-cancel on his bai, or even worse the dair, prepare to get punished for the ovewhelming lag. You definetly want to work on l-canceling every aerial because it will speed up you're gameplay and help you get longer combos on opponents.

Watch this to get an idea of how fast Marth can chain attacks when l-canceled.

A lot of those combos wouldn't be possible if he didn't have those few extra frames from l-canceling
