How Much Further Can SSB64 Go?

thanks mainly to TASers, the game has pretty much been pushed to its limits. however, when it comes to humans playing how much more room for improvement is there?

there are different areas for improvement, like tech skills, strategies, etc. do you think there will be many changes in any of these areas?

i think in the techincal department it's pretty much maxed out, it just comes down to how effectively you can use the tech skills. that brings me to my main point.

strategy-wise, will there be more effective ways to approach with certain characters, better ways to edgeguard, better ways to punish camping, etc. My expertise of this game isn't nearly as great as some of the others on here so i'm curious to see what some of you think.

smash at the top level is very much a chess game, so is it possible for there to be a new 'berlin wall' of smash?

ps i understand that a lot of strategies are very specific to each character, the maps, and opponents but there has to be a more effective general strategy

TAS is for showing cool stuff. It doesn't show the highest level of play, because there's more to being good at smash than frame-perfect shenanigans or epic impractical DI-able combos.

The only way I see a wall occurring would be if people got good enough that they discovered that approaching was never good, at which point... **** sucks. I'd argue that that's only going to happen on Hyrule, though.

Otherwise, no, mindgames aren't really limited, and reading the opponent isn't something that both opponents can ever do perfectly.

Yea I would say that most players, even good ones are VERY far away from the limit in this game. Like Battlecow said, you will never be able to predict everything, and that affects spacing and approach too. Isai/Boom are a lot closer to the "max" of this game I suppose. But that's what I thought years ago and (from what I've seen) both of them got way better in the past few years. I have more to add but I'm in class lol.

oh and Hyrule sucks.

people's hands can be pushed to quicken. But TAS cannot at this point.

Ness/Yoshi will actually be good then :troll:

Seeing as there are only a handful of players that can give Isai a run for his money, no, the game has not been pushed to its limits.

Just start playing as all the different characters, that should atleast give you something to do for a while! but other than that, I've been playing SSB since it was released back in 99.. so I don't think it's ever going to lose its fun.

I don't even know what I'm doing half the time and apparently I'm a top player
that means you're not a top player

once you understand what you're doing, everything will become clear (like Neo at the end of the first Matrix), and you will be on your way to becoming a top player

being colonized by the british is so mainstream
Yeaahh gurrllr. I know RITE? By the Spanish too fa SHO. Brazilians are LUCKY they're more UNIQUE 'cause PORTUGAL isn't so PREVALENT.

Also was always kind of suprised (<eff the first r of that word, that's how I pronounced it for years) that the Aussie posse have kept their flag swag tarnished with that Brit shoutout in the top-left corner. That ain't independence nukkas :troll:

norwegian flag is never mainstream >=(
Horizontal stripes or a cross also be mainstream. Both in colors and pattern... Sorry Norway :troll:

OK, norway's flag is eh, but the mother****ers who really need a ****ing flag change are the russians and the yugoslavians and the netherlands. Who's who? How could anyone ever tell?

The french too kind of, although their main flag (the one with the white cross on the white background) is so definitively theirs that it makes up for it.
