Great fun, great humor, and very touching. One of my favorites.

On a somewhat related note, I hear Undertale is a game in the same "spirit" of Earthbound. I should get around to playing it at some point.

Melee inspired me to play Earthbound when I was a little kid. Specifically Ness and his friend's trophies.

Now that I've played it, I like Ness so much that I use him as my third character (behind Luigi in first and Dorf in second).

My favorite part is Summers. Because it's just so laughable how the people there act.

I've played Mother 2 and 3 and beat them. I have mother 1 but I haven't played through the whole game yet. I never knew who ness and lucas were before smash and I decided to play their games since I had access to them. If you haven't played any mother games, at least get one on your wii u or emulate mother 3.

It is impossible to play any character without first knowing his soul. Only when you play as Ness, experience the beaten path he had to trod, and grow as Ness has grown can you understand how Ness should be played.

I've played Mother 2/Earthbound after playing both Melee and Brawl and wondering about Ness's origins. So I decided to play through the game and loved it through to the end. The final boss really is... Something.
I'm currently playing Mother 3 and that's an enjoyable experience as well.
I've not started the first game though, but I plan to after completing Mother 3.

Highly recommend them to those who haven't played any!

Is it weird that I can't get down for lucas in this game? Especially since my summer fling with brawl back in the day he was 1 of the 3 characters I played.

He's a character I wish I liked, but theres just nothing there.

I have played EarthBound, but only LONG after I played Ness in Melee and Brawl. Melee was my first experience with Ness, and I absolutely loved playing as him back in the day. Reading his trophies in Melee made me REALLY want to play EarthBound. I remember dearly hoping for a Wii VC release of EarthBound, but that never happened. It was after the release of Brawl, but WELL before the Wii U's VC release (and well before the Wii U itself was even released) that I finally broke down and used an emulator to play it.
And by God, I regret absolutely nothing. EarthBound was just amazing to play. I later also used an emulator to play Mother 3 as well back then, with the fan translation patch. And I thought Mother 3 was even better. Mother 3 in particular ranks in my top 5 favorite video games of all-time.
Of course, once I got a Wii U (in November 2014), I did my part to legally support EarthBound and got the VC release off of the eShop. I'm hoping that rumor of a Mother 3 localization is true...

I starting maining Ness after beating Earthbound. I only main characters I like from their series, regardless of how good they are.
Shulk for Xenoblade as my pocket. Mr. G&W for my love of retro video games (doesn't get more retro than him) as my secondary. And Ness for one of my favorite SNES games as my main.

While I don't main Ness nor have I played Earthbound yet. I have watched NintendoCapriSun's let's play of it a while ago and it is one of the classics that I would like to at least give a shot at along with FF1, FF4, FF6, FF7, Chrono Trigger, Star Fox SNES at the moment.

What I like about Earthbound is that it has a certain quirkiness to it that gives it a pretty unique identity and has a nice art style and a catchy soundtrack.

RPG's usually aren't my kind of game, but I do know that there are ones out there including the ones I've mentioned above that I feel are indeed worth giving a chance.
