I'm hoping for it to live longer than 2 years. This game has such great potential and 17 patches isn't enough for a game of this size.

How long will Nintendo/Sakurai support this game balance patch wise?

I believe it will be longer than the Wii U. This game is inevitably going to blow Smash U out of the water in sales and it's launching only a year after launch of the console that will inevitably last longer than the Wii U did.
I have no doubts it will be supported longer with more DLC content, even if it's only a little bit more.
