Until I have nobody to practice with under good conditions.

Welp

See you all last at zenith
I've played this game twice in the past two months. Once was after cobr, phox, sedda, and I played MP3 and the second was when me and sman played in the low tier tournament with a character I don't know how to use. I'm not quitting, I'm not complaining, I'm still on smashboards having a good time and enjoying the game when I do play it. You're growing up, thats what happens. This game turns from a sport to a hobby. In high school you could play sports every day, and every week play in a game with high levels of competition and glory and excitement, and thats because its a sport. But when you're old, there are no sports to play. You can sign up for a recreational league but thats once a week, doesn't really have practices, competition sucks, and there isn't much glory. Its not so much a sport anymore as it is a hobby, or activity that you enjoy. But people don't quit, they keep playing it and enjoy it for what it is, a hobby that they fell in love with when it was a sport. I still want to play sports at high levels of competition and get the glory I once did, but that isn't really an option anymore so I settle with whats available and then go out drinking with the team afterwards. Smash is like that. You have your glory days when you're young and can put a ton of time into it, but when you get older, you can't get mad if you don't have the time or the competition. You can still try to win and enjoy it but don't get disappointed because its not what it used to be. Play it as a hobby, compete as a hobby, and then go out drinking afterwards with your fellow smashers. You've been around here for a while, learn to just enjoy the game and the community.

I can understand your frustration, but is quitting necessary? Maybe just play less so that you don't get pissed off if there aren't many people to play with. If you only play once a week and organize a session with people you want to play, I'm sure they'd be down. I've tried to play every day and it just doesn't work lol. I don't get frustrated if I play less per week, but I don't want to outright quit.
Sounds like someone should start up a local weekly tournament.

i think i'm pretty much done playing online, thought never say never. Always down to play console with anyone. I've gone through burn out stages on the game before where i have to stop playing for a couple months, but I seem to always come back to this game. Maybe one day I just won't have the urge to play anymore, though I doubt it. I can definitely see once I have a family I would probably not travel to tournaments, at least not as much.

I still want to play ssb64 every now and then but eh what can you do
but eventually everyone will be settled down maybe with a wife, kids, and a career.
2 out 3 for me. Maybe there is still hope for me.

I get nostalgic when i try to play it nowadays; has to do with my constant brooding probably. Haven't played smash in a good while and i need to pick it up again. Been doing a lot of airsoft (which my brother-in-law convinced me to do), even though its entertaining - it would be nice to sit on my ass and play smash.

That's the good thing about smash. It's always going to be waiting there for you

Probably going to keep playing until I encounter another game which entices me to this extent. Which, after all these years, still doesn't seem likely.

I'm already playing less. I've BEEN playing a lot less. I haven't had a serious long practice session in over a month now. Organize a session once a week? I ****ing WISH I was able to play at least once every week.

Last year someone kept telling me to go to zenith. At the time I was playing and trying to get good at 2 or 3 other fighting games and had a couple of other hobbies. I found that the LOCAL tristate community was bigger than I had seen it before for 64 and the game's popularity had definitely grown. So I kinda dropped all of the other games I was playing at the time so I could spend most of my time on ssb64 and getting better at it. I started playing this game again with the purpose of becoming one of the best (Becoming THE best is an unrealistic goal because if everyone had this goal, only one person wouldn't be disappointed).

I've played this game for way too long. I can't simply settle with "playing it for fun" while doing the same approaches, neutral game, combos, edgeguards, etc. over and over. I have other games that I enjoy just as much or more where I can always get good competition to play against me. Ultra SF4 is releasing pretty much right after zenith so I'm going to jump back on that and Skullgirls at that time. I have other friends and hobbies we shared that I pretty much "dumped" as of last year so I could try to do something in ssb64. Compete as a hobby? The closest tournaments for me in ssb64 are a 4 hour drive away from me. That's a total of 8 hours of driving. I'm tired of driving that far and spending that much gas money on a game where I can't even get top 20% outside of locals, specially with no serious way for me to practice for any of them. It also doesn't help that I almost never have a good experience at any non-local.

Like I said, I'll see you all at zenith.
