How important is switching?

I was just curious how often or when the skilled PTs switch. I only switch after I've been KOd or occassionally if I've KOd the opponent with my pokemon at a low percent, I tend to not find fatiue too important because damage only drops 3-4% and although knockback drops PT is an edgeguarding specialist so usually the knockback decrease isn't too important.

This is probably a noob strategy so I was wondering if some good PTs could give me some advice, thanks.

I thought there was a thread on this already?

Fatigue hurts a lot =\ Squirtle and Ivysaur have serious issues getting a KO when they're fatigued. When to switch is dependent on the matchup, and on the specific situation you're in....there's no hard set of rules for when to switch. In general, you want to maximize the time you spend with your best matchup, and minimize your worst matchup, while keeping fatigue in mind. Learn your matchups and just play a lot more and you'll get a better feel for it.

One idea is to "sacrifice" your worst matchup. Say you're up against someone that Squirtle and Charizard do well against, but Ivysaur gets owned, which is common. If you get a good hit on an opponent as Squirtle and you're at high percents, you could switch to Ivysaur and just aim to do as much damage as possible until you die so that Charizard can come out fresh. Alternatively, you could stick with Squirtle until he dies, then switch out Ivysaur as soon as you get in and take the hit with Charizard, if you think the extra damage you could do with Squirtle over Ivysaur would be worth the damage you take as Charizard. This is where experience and knowing matchups comes in.

Yeah I considered the sacrifice thing before.

Ok but should dthrow should be used to switch or saved for a finisher?

Squirtle's dthrow is ideal for both situations, really. It just depends on how you want to use it.
