How Does The Scoring System Work

Does anyone know how the exactly the scoring system works for Classic? I know that for All-Star you get more points if the opponents have really high percentages but for Classic I doubt the same applies.

Out of all characters, the one that annoys me the most (along with Bowser Jr.) has the highest score, being Pac-Man at 832,760 beaten on 7.9 intensity. The previous holder was Ganondorf at 813,420 on 9.0 and I was only doing the recommended 7.9 runs with the other characters to unlock their custom moves and I somehow managed to get Pac-Man at the top. I want to change that, I don't like seeing his face there all the time laughing at me winking his eye. I've come close with Link at 825,750 on 9.0 intensity but it seems there are other factors that determine your score apart from playing at the highest difficulty.

Anyone know?

I noticed that the amount of damage dealt to the opponent seems to influence the score, as does your number of lives. So if you can rack up a lot of damage then kill (instead of just abusing the AI and gimping), and then not die, your score will probably be higher.

Yeah, I do know that losing a stock affects points (I think you lose 6,000 points for each stock lost) but with Link I did a perfect run on 9.0 and still got a lower score than Pac-Man who I beat on 7.9. I'll try doing another no stock lost run and try to deal more damage instead of beating them as fast as possible. Someone here posted in a thread that in All-Star you get more points if you rack up damage compared to getting quick K.O.'s, maybe the same system applies.
