How do you gimp Villager?

Ugh! Villager is so annoying. I fought one that constantly spammed the slingshot and camped around his tree while sending Lloyd rockets my way the whole time. And whenever I got him off stage, he'd always recover low and get back on stage while slingshotting, and I couldn't figure out how to mess him up off the stage. It feels like Villager owns the off stage area. I can't get near him because he'll just attack me and have absolutely no problems recovering. I don't even know if it's possible to gimp Villager because his recovery is so broken. I know it might be weird asking how to beat a Villager on a Villager board since I'm sure a lot of you main Villager and wouldn't wanna give away his weaknesses, but I couldn't think of one specific character that has this problem with him. All my characters do. The last match I had with Villager, I was Sonic. But I have problems with everyone I play. Ness, Shulk, Little Mac and Pac-Man too.

Villager is so light. Either spike us or just get us at a high % and smash. You can also try taking the balloons out by chasing off the stage. I wouldn't really try to gimp a Villager unless I saw a perfect opportunity to do so.
