How do you feel when you lose laggy games in FG?

I've written about lag and the online smash experience at length, but I want to hear how you guys feel when faced with adversity in the form of an unstoppable opponent. By which, I of course mean high-latency between players.

I used to get pretty salty about it, but I've kind of accepted at this point that currently, in my opinion, FG is NOT as competitive and "fair" as something like a locally played tournament of smash, both with the input lag and the lack of variety in stages.

If I ever lose a game and I'm blaming "lag", I'll always check where the opponent was playing from. Belgium? Sweden? Australia? How hard is it for me to get a game with someone near California in the United States?

Then again, I'm not convinced it's a completely location-based thing. I often won't dodge games with Japanese players because, as far as I've found, most of them actually have really fast, stable connections, whereas if I'm fighting someone from, let's say Greece, the odds of that happening seem way lower.

I refuse to "adjust" to lag because I believe this ends up giving players bad habits, and I lose lots of games because of this.

Enough about me though, what do you guys think?

I SD for the purpose of not dealing with it. If I'm playing Ganondorf. I just spam B and see what happens. I personally don't care, but lag kills my strategy of getting in and it just pisses me off. I'm a bit above average, but I am horrific in lag

Assuming you have acceptable internet, a laggy battle is largely out of your control, and frankly, not worth over-thinking. Do what you do every match: try your best to win. A victory will only be that much more satisfying under rocky conditions. Regardless of the outcome, I will leave after the first match.

Honestly, as someone that does not have the greatest connection myself, I have learned to adapt to the lag (and input lag). I might lose because of it, but overcoming it helps raise my self esteem. If I lose and I know it is because of lag, I do not get too salty. I am a victim of circumstance in that event. It happens.

It doesn't matter whether I win or lose. A laggy match is an unenjoyable one, straight up. Wins and losses mean nothing if I'm having fun, which I can't do when a game is lagging.

I do my best every match, lag or no lag. More often than not the other opponent will SD anyway if its not tolerable (happens mostly from Japanese players I've seen). Lag is to be expected so I will play through it. When the lag becomes too intolerable/unbearable I really don't put too much thought into whether I win or lose. Drop the opponent after the match and find someone new. With tolerable lag, you are still able to learn from the match, but don't get yourself down if you lose due to it.

Doesnt really bother me cause I only play 'for glory' for fun. Theres absolutely no point in being upset or anything when u go into an online match knowing that the lag factor will always be there and that neither you, nor the game, can be played at its full potential because of it. Its like getting mad that u got wet because u took a walk in the rain

In all honesty it just makes me want to compete at a tournament more. FG is fun every once in a while.

Eh, If I get lots of lag I usually SD or just wait it out. It doesn't piss me off or anything, just sort of annoying. But when I'm playing a good and fun player and it suddenly starts lagging I kind of get sad.

I've only done 3 for glory matches on my 3ds (2 today). I never lost but I can't stand the lag that I BARELY ever come back at all to it. I just rather stay offline in a lag free world... Don't know what to say about the wii u version because I haven't touched it yet. If I have the same issue or worse, I'll just stick with the amiibos.

I just enjoy playing against decent players and congratulate them for their performance, regardless of who wins or loses.

Laggy matches aren't really very fun. Well I guess watching the characters move in slow motion can sometimes be amusing, usually it's not. I don't really get mad about losing those games, I kinda stop taking the battle seriously when it gets really laggy.

Usually I'll stand at the back of the stage and crouch in the other direction. If my opponent understands I'm under lag and waits then I'm immediately unsalty.

Usually the result of lag is that the opponent gets "shield priority" due to "extra frames" and all of my attacks whiff. If that's the case I'll just kinda spam Marth's neutral B if I'm using him in hopes of getting a shield break KO.

honestly, most of my losses on FG are me suiciding because there's too much lag. Screw the W/L ratio, i'm not gonna spend 10 minutes fighting someone frame-by-frame.

That being said, it's really only 1/10th of the matches that have enough lag for this to be an issue.

When the lag is so bad that it's like swimming through molasses with Shield on when I picked Speed, that's just boring.
When it's unnoticable in the heat of battle, then suddenly spikes (especially when I'm toggling my Monado Arts and lose inputs) causing me to lose the whole game because I threw out a Buster f-smash instead of a Smash f-smash, then I get a bit salty...
